Lattice oxygen insertion mechanism in CeO-catalyzed reactions in water: nitrile hydration reaction.

Cerium oxide (CeO) exhibits prominent catalytic activity in various organic reactions owing to its unique acid-base and redox properties. One of the most interesting applications of pure CeO-catalyzed organic reactions is the hydration of nitriles in water. The experimental results showed that the hydration of 2-cyanopyridine to picolinamide in water using CeO catalysts proceeds readily at low temperatures (30-100 °C) in high yields and that this reaction occurs exclusively on CeO among various metal-oxide catalysts.

SETD2 regulates SLC family transporter-mediated sodium and glucose reabsorptions in renal tubule.

A regulatory mechanism for SLC family transporters, critical transporters for sodium and glucose reabsorptions in renal tubule, is incompletely understood. Here, we report an important regulation of SLC family transporter by SETD2, a chromatin remodeling gene whose alterations have been found in a subset of kidney cancers. Kidney-specific inactivation of Setd2 resulted in hypovolemia with excessive urine excretion in mouse and interestingly, RNA-sequencing analysis of Setd2-deficient murine kidney exhibited decreased expressions of SLC family transporters, critical transporters for sodium and glucose reabsorptions in renal tubule.

Among the bimetallic NiFe-BHTs with various ratios with Ni:Fe = x:y, the NiFe-BHT exhibits the highest OER activity.

On-the-fly kinetic Monte Carlo simulations with neural network potentials for surface diffusion and reaction.

We develop an adaptive scheme in the kinetic Monte Carlo simulations, where the adsorption and activation energies of all elementary steps, including the effects of other adsorbates, are evaluated "on-the-fly" by employing the neural network potentials. The configurations and energies evaluated during the simulations are stored for reuse when the same configurations are sampled in a later step. The present scheme is applied to hydrogen adsorption and diffusion on the Pd(111) and Pt(111) surfaces and the CO oxidation reaction on the Pt(111) surface.

Video-assisted thoracic surgery esophagectomy (VATS-E) may increase the risk of postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV) because it uses a high dosage of anesthesia through a long operative duration. However, no study has examined the risk factors for PONV after VATS-E. Therefore, we investigated the risk factors for PONV to support the appropriate risk management of PONV after VATS-E.

Enfortumab vedotin prolongs overall survival in metastatic urothelial carcinoma following pembrolizumab therapy in real-world data.

Objective: In December 2021, enfortumab vedotin (EV), an antibody-drug conjugate directed against nectin-4, was approved in Japan as a new treatment after platinum-containing chemotherapy and PD-1/PD-L1 inhibitors. This study evaluated, using real-world data, the efficacy and safety of EV therapy in patients with metastatic urothelial carcinoma (mUC).
