Geriatric chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO) mimicking multifocal multiple myeloma: a first in an octogenarian.

Chronic recurrent multifocal osteomyelitis (CRMO), an autoinflammatory bone disorder characterized by non-bacterial osteomyelitis causing recurrent multifocal bone lesions, is a well-known, yet uncommon pediatric condition that rarely affects adults; to date, it has never been diagnosed over the age of 75. The following report will discuss the first octogenarian diagnosed with CRMO and therefore represents an exceptionally rare presentation of a rare disease. An 83-year-old woman presented with progressive right shoulder, forearm, and hip pain, with associated weight loss and global weakness, requiring a wheelchair for mobility.

Atypical Presentation of Metastatic Carcinoma Causing Patellar Destruction and Synovial Carcinomatosis: A Case Report.

Introduction: This case report describes the third documented example of primary esophageal carcinoma metastasizing to the patella and the first documented example of esophageal carcinoma metastasizing to synovium.

Case Report: A 67-year-old man with a history of metastatic esophageal carcinoma presents with right knee pain and an aggressive, destructive lesion involving the superior patella. Biopsy revealed esophageal carcinoma.

Treatment trends of benign bone lesions in a suburban New York healthcare system.

Introduction: The management of benign bone lesions is controversial as it is dependent on a multitude of factors such as age, anatomic location, comorbidities, lesion metabolic activity, surgeon preferences, and goals of care, among others. Thus far, many studies have attempted to report on these lesions; however, most are heterogeneous compilations of benign and malignant lesions with nearly all failing to report patient treatment and none of which have originated from a suburban area of the United States. The goal of this study was to establish a modern database dedicated solely to benign bone tumors to reflect current diagnosis and treatment trends in suburban New York.

Electrocardiogram Monitoring Practices for Hospitalized Adults Receiving Antipsychotics: A Retrospective Cohort Study.

Objective: Antipsychotics are frequently used for managing both acute and chronic neuropsychiatric disorders. While antipsychotics are known to be associated with increased mortality due to cardiac arrhythmia, there is a lack of consensus on the timing and frequency of electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring.  The goal of this study was to examine current ECG monitoring practices for adults receiving antipsychotics, specifically during hospital admission.

The organization of safety in the working places and the increasing attention to behaviours and life styles of workers that may lead to increasing occupational risks are the pick innovative aspects of the recent changes in our country's legislation about occupational safety. In this organization, the role of the company physician is becoming more and more important and his work of evaluation beginning with the knowledge both of the working places and of the workers's lifestyles, is irreplaceable. His role in organizing the managing standards of occupational safety and health cannot be limited to health supervision but must be an essential element in risk assessment in the prevision of workplaces and of safe working conditions, in workers training and information, in organizing the control system of each business.

[Malignant mesothelioma (MM) in women: findings of the Mesothelioma Register of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region].

During the period 2000-2003, the Mesothelioma Register of the Friuli Venezia Giulia identified 248 cases of MM, 44 of which (18%) were female. In 36 cases the diagnosis was "certain" and in 8 "probable" or "possible". Mean age at diagnosis was 72.

Two cases of paraoccupational asthma due to toluene diisocyanate (TDI).

Two cases of paraoccupational asthma caused by toluene diisocyanate (TDI) are reported. The first patient was a metal worker in a machine shop situated near a factory producing polyurethane foam. Symptoms at work were not explainable by any specific exposure to irritants or allergens in the work site.

[Follow-up of allergic symptoms in a group of health workers sensitized to latex].

We studied 28 health care workers sensitised to latex and complaining of respiratory symptoms at work. All were females, aged 32 y (median), and had worked in the hospital for 12 y, in departments with high exposures (22 cases), moderate exposure (4 cases) or low exposure (2 cases) to rubber gloves.
