A new gas analytical technique for infrared laser spectroscopy combined with differential pressure measurement (IR-DP) is developed. The basic idea of this technique is that the absorption process of molecules by laser irradiation is monitored as the pressure enhancement in a gas cell by use of a differential pressure gauge. The system is composed of a tunable IR laser system, sample cell, differential pressure gauge, and data accumulation system.

The recent large outbreaks of Ebola virus disease in West Africa and the Democratic Republic of the Congo have highlighted the need for rapid diagnostic tests to control this disease. In this chapter, the development of immunochromatographic lateral flow assays to detect filovirus nucleoproteins is described as an example of designing rapid diagnostic tests.

Methods: Subjects were first-visit Kampo outpatients at six institutions who agreed to participate in this multicenter prospective observational study. The cold pattern model and the heat pattern model were created separately with 148 symptoms, body mass index, blood pressure (systolic and diastolic), age, and sex.
Background And Objectives: Sarcomas developing in the visceral organs are extremely rare, with no previous reports to describe their national epidemiology. We analyzed Japanese domestic statistics for visceral sarcoma, using the National Cancer Registry (NCR) in Japan, a population-based database launched in 2016.
Methods: We identified 3245 cases of visceral sarcomas in the NCR dated 2016-2019 to analyze demographic and disease information, initial diagnostic process, volume and type of the hospitals, treatment, and prognosis.
Background: Clear cell sarcoma is rare, so no reports have previously characterized its national profiles. We examined the nationwide epidemiology and clinical outcomes of patients with clear cell sarcoma based on the National Cancer Registry in Japan.
Methods: Overall, 23 522 patients with soft tissue sarcoma-entered in the National Cancer Registry in 2016-2019 using the International Classification of Diseases for Oncology, Third Edition cancer topography and morphology codes-were enrolled in either the clear cell or the non-clear cell sarcoma group.
We examined the conformation of benzo-15-crown-5 (B15C5) and benzo-18-crown-6 (B18C6) complexes with ammonium ions, NH, CHNH (MeNH), CHCHNH (EtNH), and CHCHCHNH (PrNH), using cold UV and IR spectroscopy in the gas phase. We measured the UV photodissociation (UVPD) spectra of the ammonium complexes and compared them with those of the K(B15C5) and K(B18C6) complexes in order to identify the conformation on the basis of the band position. The number of possible conformations for the ammonium complexes of B15C5 is limited compared with alkali metal ions with similar ionic radii.

Region-specific roles of this molecule are associated with psychiatric disorders. In the present study, we examined the importance of Shati/Nat8l in the hippocampus because of its high expression in this region.

When gene transfer to a large area of the brain is required, the first two methods are used, but for diseases in which local gene transfer is expected to be effective, vectors are administered directly into the brain parenchyma.
Areas Covered: Strategies for intraparenchymal vector delivery in gene therapy for Parkinson's disease, aromatic l-amino acid decarboxylase (AADC) deficiency, and epilepsy are reviewed.
Background: No previous reports have characterized national profiles of soft-tissue sarcoma overall. We examined the nationwide statistics for soft-tissue sarcoma in Japan using data from the population-based National Cancer Registry.
Methods: We identified 23 522 soft-tissue-sarcoma patients who were entered in the National Cancer Registry during 2016-19 using International Classification of Diseases-Oncology, Third Edition codes for cancer topography and morphology.
Idling brain activity has been proposed to facilitate inference, insight, and innovative problem-solving. However, it remains unclear how and when the idling brain can create novel ideas. Here, we show that cortical offline activity is both necessary and sufficient for building unlearned inferential knowledge from previously acquired information.

Methods: We identified 3,755 patients with bone sarcomas entered in the NCR during 2016-2019 using International Classification of Diseases-Oncology, Third Edition codes for cancer topography and morphology.
Radical cations of dimeric clusters of carbon dioxide/disulfide, [(CX)] (X = O and S), form strong intracluster bonds through charge resonance (CR) interactions. We herein performed electronic photodissociation spectroscopy of [(CX)] while regulating the temperature under ambient and cryogenic conditions using a quadrupole ion trap. Both ions exhibited broad band absorption in the near-infrared-visible light region; it is called the "CR band", as a measure of the strength of the CR interaction.

First-line antidepressants increase serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine; 5-HT) levels in the brain. We previously reported that an -acetyltransferase, Shati/Nat8l, is upregulated in the dorsal striatum (dSTR) of stress-susceptible mice exposed to repeated social defeat stress (RSDS) and that dSTR Shati/Nat8l overexpression in mice (dSTR-Shati OE) induces stress vulnerability and local reduction in 5-HT content.

The efficacy of gene therapy depends on achieving sufficient levels of transduction at a safe vector dose. Vectors derived from various adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) are predominantly used to deliver therapeutic genes to inner ear cells.

In yeast, a multi-subunit "pre-loading complex" (pre-LC) accompanies GINS to chromatin-bound MCM2-7, leading to CMG formation. Here, we report that DONSON, a metazoan protein mutated in microcephalic primordial dwarfism, is required for CMG assembly in vertebrates.

In contrast, underwent cluster-core fission ( → [Au(PPh)] () + [Au(PPh)] ()) upon sufficiently high energy collision, associated with splitting the number of valence electrons in the superatomic orbitals from 6e () into 4e () and 2e ().
