Materials And Methods: Rifampicin-gelatin grafts were prepared with impregnation of Gelseal (Vascutek Ltd, Scotland) graft in 1 mg/mL rifampicin solution. Rifampicin-gelatin grafts (6 cm long; n = 24) and plain Gelseal grafts as controls (n = 4) were implanted into the canine abdominal aorta with inoculation of Staphylococcus epidermidis, Escherichia coli, or methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), and the rifampicin-gelatin grafts were retrieved after 1 to 4 weeks.
Background: Radial artery bypass conduits are prone to early vasospasm or "string sign" with use of vasopressor therapy intraoperatively and postoperatively, causing increased resistance in coronary artery grafts. Current intraoperative treatment with papaverine fails to provide sustained inhibition of vasoconstriction. We tested the hypothesis that a 30-minute pretreatment of radial artery segments with the alpha-adrenergic antagonist phenoxybenzamine (PB) or the putative protein phosphatase 2,3-butadione monoxime (BDM) attenuates vasoconstriction induced by the vasopressors phenylephrine or norepinephrine for as long as 48 hours compared with papaverine.

Methods: From January 1995 to March 1997, 29 consecutive patients with AF associated with mitral valve disease underwent our modified maze procedure combined with mitral or other valve operations. The causes of mitral valve disease were rheumatic mitral stenosis (n = 22) and nonrheumatic mitral regurgitation (n = 7).
The patient of 21-year-old female, who had undergone VSD closures at the age 5 and had been pointed out to have aortic valve stenosis at that time, was admitted to our hospital with complaints of palpitation and easy fatigability. Pressure gradient of 140 mmHg between left ventricle and ascending aorta, and poststenotic dilatation of max 55 mm in diameter from ascending aorta to hemi aortic arch was recognized by cardiac catheterization and aortogram. For fear of aortic dissection in late phase caused by dilatation of ascending aorta left over, graft replacement from ascending aorta to hemi aortic arch was carried out simultaneously adding to aortic valve replacement (AVR).
