Ego-relevance in team production.

We study how individuals' effort contribution to a team production task varies depending on whether the task is ego relevant or not. We conduct an experiment to test the effect of ego-relevance when the team production depends on the team's top- or bottom-performer. Ego-relevance is manipulated by calling the Raven IQ Test an "IQ Task" or a "Pattern Task.

Incentives and gender in a multi-task setting: An experimental study with real-effort tasks.

This paper investigates the behavioural effects of competitive, social-value and social-image incentives on men's and women's allocation of effort in a multi-task environment. Specifically, using two real-effort laboratory tasks, we investigate how competitive prizes, social-value generation and public awards affect effort allocation decisions between the tasks. We find that all three types of incentives significantly focus effort allocation towards the task they are applied in, but the effect varies significantly between men and women.

Childhood Sexual Abuse, Attachments in Childhood and Adulthood, and Coercive Sexual Behaviors in Community Males.

Associations between self-reported coercive sexual behavior against adult females, childhood sexual abuse (CSA), and child-parent attachment styles, as well as attachment with adult romantic partners, were examined among 176 adult community males. Attachment style with each parent and with romantic partners was also investigated as a potential moderator. Using hierarchical multiple regression analysis, avoidant attachment with mothers in childhood (and also with fathers, in a second model) accounted for a significant amount of the variance in coercive sexual behavior controlling for scores on anxious ambivalent and disorganized/disoriented attachment scales, as predicted.

A patient with severe hyponatreamia secondary to chronic renal failure was treated with peritoneal dialysis (PD). On the third day of admission, she developed progressive obtundation. Neurological examination showed bilateral brisk reflexes with intact brain stem reflexes.

Disseminated histoplasmosis presenting with ileal perforation in a renal transplant recipient.

A renal transplant patient presented with ileal perforation due to histoplasmosis 3 years after transplantation. Mesenteric lymph nodes and lungs were also affected by the disease. She was successfully treated with amphotericin B followed by ketoconazole.

The assignment of the genes coding for human complement components C6 and C7 to chromosome 5.

A panel of 19 somatic cell hybrids was tested for the presence of human sequences coding for complement components C6 and C7 by restriction enzyme digestion and Southern blots probed with human C6 and C7 cDNA probes. C7 was also detected by amplifying part of the human gene in hybrid DNA using the polymerase chain reaction. Detection of human C6 and C7 was completely correlated with the presence of chromosome 5.

The gene for human complement component C9 mapped to chromosome 5 by polymerase chain reaction.

The gene for human complement component C9 has been mapped to chromosome 5. This was achieved by using a novel application of the polymerase chain reaction to amplify specifically the human C9 gene on a background of rodent DNA in somatic cell hybrids. The assignment to chromosome 5 was confirmed by in situ hybridization to human metaphase chromosomes, giving a regional localization of 5p13.

Analgesic nephropathy associated with paracetamol.

Seven cases of analgesic nephropathy due to excessive ingestion of paracetamol are reported. None of these patients had been taking any other analgesic. All had radiological features of papillary necrosis.
