Determination of correlation between cytokines IL 6, IL8, IL10, IL12, IL17 and severity of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients having hepatitis C.

Objectives: To determine the correlation between the levels of interleukins 6, 8, 10, 12 and 17 and the severity of hepatocellular carcinoma in patients positive for hepatitis C.

Methods: The retrospective, cross-sectional, analytical study was conducted at the Department of Medicine, Mardan Medical Complex, Mardan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, and comprised data of hepatocellular carcinoma patients who were positive for hepatitis C on polymerase chain reaction test from March 2021 to December 2022. A control group of healthy patients was also included.

In-situ synthesis and integration of gold nanoparticles into 3D printed optical fiber probes.

This work uses the polymeric reduction method to explore the in-situ synthesis of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) within 3D-printed optical fiber probes (OFPs). Digital light processing (DLP) 3D printing is employed to fabricate the OFPs using a resin consisting of hydroxyethyl methacrylate (HEMA) and polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEGDA). After printing, OFPs were immersed in a boiling gold precursor solution to facilitate the synthesis of AuNPs inside the polymer matrix.

In this study, multifunctional Fresnel lenses were explored as a potential solution for correcting vision in patients with color vision deficiency (CVD) and high myopia. Current studies have primarily focused on color vision correction through the 3D printing of glasses and contact lenses. However, the potential of 3D-printed multifunctional devices, such as Fresnel lenses, goes beyond addressing a single vision correction issue.

Objectives: To determine how plasma fibrinogen levels impact the severity of microvascular complications in people with type 2 diabetes while focussing on the molecular mechanisms of fibrinogen's role in such complications.

Methods: The analytical, cross-sectional study was conducted from September 2022 to March 2023 at the Department of Medicine, Mardan Medical Complex and Teaching Hospital, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan, and comprised adult patients of either gender who had been diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and microvascular complications. Each patient was subjected to an evaluation of microvascular complications, including diabetic retinopathy, nephropathy and neuropathy, using validated diagnostic criteria and clinical examinations.

Translation and psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the ageism scale for dental students (ASDS-Ar): A multi-institutional validation.

Background And Objective: Ageism represents an important barrier to high-quality healthcare for older adults. The present study sought to translate and validate the Arabic version of the Ageism Scale for Dental Students (ASDS-Arabic).

Materials And Methods: The 27-item ASDS tool was translated from English into Arabic following recommended cross-sectional forward and backward translation guidelines.

Isolation and Screening of Zn (Zn) Solubilizing Rhizosphere Bacteria from Different Vegetations for Their Ability to Improve Growth, Zn Uptake, and Expression of Zn Transporter Genes in Tomato.

Zinc-solubilizing bacteria (ZSB) can convert insoluble zinc to an accessible form and increase Zn bioavailability in soil, which helps mitigate Zn deficiency in crops. In this study, different bacterial strains were screened for different Zn solubilization and plant growth promotion traits. Two bacterial strains, Acinetobacter pittii DJ55 and Stenotrophomonas maltophilia DJ24, were tested for their Zn-solubilizing potential on plate media, and both showed variable levels of Zn solubilization.

Aims: The Lynch syndrome (LS) screening algorithm requires BRAF testing as a fundamental step to distinguish sporadic from LS-associated colorectal carcinomas (CRC). BRAF testing by immunohistochemistry (IHC) has shown variable results in the literature. Our aim was to analyse concordance between BRAF IHC and BRAF molecular analysis in a large, mono-institutional CRC whole-slide, case series with laboratory validation.

UV polymerization fabrication method for polymer composite based optical fiber sensors.

Optical fiber (OF) sensors are critical optical devices with excellent sensing capabilities and the capacity to operate in remote and hostile environments. However, integrating functional materials and micro/nanostructures into the optical fiber systems for specific sensing applications has limitations of compatibility, readiness, poor control, robustness, and cost-effectiveness. Herein, we have demonstrated the fabrication and integration of stimuli-responsive optical fiber probe sensors using a novel, low-cost, and facile 3D printing process.

An Obscure Presence of Gastroduodenal Involvement in a Newly Diagnosed Ileocolonic Crohn's Disease Patient.

Whereas typical Crohn's disease is confined to the terminal ileum and presents with abdominal pain and diarrhea, gastroduodenal manifestations of Crohn's disease are rare, with often asymptomatic patient presentations and inconclusive diagnostic testing. It is, however, a more severe form of Crohn's disease and thus warrants treatment with steroids and biologics much earlier than its ileocolonic counterpart. We present the case of a young, otherwise healthy, male with newly diagnosed ileocolonic Crohn's disease with concurrent gastroduodenal involvement that initially failed management with biologic agents.

Spontaneous perforation of Meckel's diverticulum: A rare entity.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common gastrointestinal tract's congenital abnormality. Spontaneous perforation of Meckel's diverticulum is very rare and can mimic acute appendicitis. Here we report the case of an 11-year-old male patient, who was presented to the Surgical A unit of Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad on 21st January, 2021 with one-day history of abdominal pain, predominantly in the periumbilical area and right iliac fossa, associated with nausea.

Diffuse Large B-Cell Lymphoma of the Cecum.

Lymphoma when arising from sites other than lymph nodes is termed extranodal lymphoma, commonly affecting the gastrointestinal tract. Primary colorectal lymphoma is a rare phenomenon among malignancies affecting the colon. We report a case of a patient with a history of Burkitt lymphoma in remission, presenting with a large cecal mass and a new diagnosis of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma treated with chemotherapy.

Photo-catalytic and biomedical applications of one-step, plant extract-mediated green-synthesized cobalt oxide nanoparticles.

In the present work, for the first time, green chemically synthesized and stabilized CoO nanoparticles were employed for catalytic conversion of isopropyl alcohol to acetone by dehydrogenation of IPA. Plant extract of Rosmarinus officinalis was used as a reducing and stabilizing agent for this synthesis. The biosynthesized CoO nanoparticles were annealed at 450℃ followed by their physiochemical characterizations through XRD, SEM, AFM, and FTIR.

What Makes You a Whistleblower? A Multi-Country Field Study on the Determinants of the Intention to Report Wrongdoing.

Unlabelled: Whistleblowers have significantly shaped the state of contemporary society; in this context, this research sheds light on a persistently neglected research area: what are the key determinants of whistleblowing within government agencies? Taking a unique methodological approach, we combine evidence from two pieces of fieldwork, conducted using both primary and secondary data from the US and Indonesia. In Study 1, we use a large-scale survey conducted by the US Merit Systems Protection Board (MSPB). Additional tests are conducted in Study 1, making comparisons between those who have and those who do not have whistleblowing experience.
