Sleep apnoea syndrome in Ramathibodi Hospital: clinical and polysomnographic baseline data.

Objective: The aim of this study was to determine clinical and baseline polysomnographic data on obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA) in Thai patients. This prospective study was performed at the Sleep Laboratory Center, Ramathibodi Hospital, Mahidol University, Thailand.

Methodology: Ninety adult cases clinically suspected of having OSA were studied.

Nocturnal physiological and biochemical changes in sudden unexplained death syndrome: a preliminary report of a case control study.

Sudden nocturnal deaths among "healthy" workers in Southeast Asia have been termed "sudden unexplained nocturnal death syndrome (SUNDS)" or "sudden unexplained death syndrome (SUDS)". The pathogenesis is still unknown. The paucity of publications on nocturnal monitoring and scientific data stimulated us to perform this study, which included biochemical tests and physiological monitoring during the night in 11 males north-eastern Thai workers.

Fungal sinusitis the important role of the histopathology in the clinical management.

Four cases of fungal sinusitis are reported. These include one case of aspergillus sinusitis alone, one case of combined aspergillus and paecilomyces sinusitis, and two cases of mucormycotic (zygomycotic) sinusitis. Although fungal sinusitis appears to be rare, it can pose difficulty in clinical diagnosis and we have demonstrated how the pathologist can help to alert the otolaryngologists of possible fungal sinusitis.

Myasthenia gravis poses a diagnostic problem for the otolaryngologist: a closer look at symptoms may alert the possibility of myasthenia gravis.

A nine-year retrospective study of the new cases of myasthenia gravis (MG) at Ramathibodi Hospital was done to find the incidence, the symptoms, and the physical signs at initial attendance (IA) and at the time of correct diagnosis (CD). In contrast to previous studies on MG, we found an incidence of only 1.1 patient with MG/year in the department of otolaryngology, representing only 3.

Labyrinthine window rupture with round window predominance: a long-term review of 32 cases.

A retrospective series is presented of 32 cases of spontaneous labyrinthine window rupture proven at tympanotomy. There was no prior history of stapedectomy or other middle ear surgery. Seventy-eight per cent of cases involved the round window, in contrast to previous series on the subject.
