Association between myasthenia gravis and Alzheimer's disease.

Introduction: Myasthenia gravis (MG) and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are two of the most important diseases where the dysregulation of acetylcholine activity plays a crucial role. In the first, this dysregulation happens at the level of the neu-romuscular junction and in the second, in the central nervous system (CNS).

Aim: To analyze the possible relationship between these two pathologies, analyzing the prevalence and the odds ratio of AD within patients previously diagnosed with MG.

[Iodinated contrast-induced encephalopathy: a pathology that must be borne in mind when carrying out endovascular examinations].

Introduction: In recent years there has been an increase in the number of endovascular examinations in the study of both cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. One very infrequent complication is neurotoxicity due to contrast, and it must be suspected within the context of a neurological deficit following such examinations in order to be able to diagnose it.

Case Report: A 61-year-old male who presented an epileptic attack and later deficit in the left hemisphere following diagnostic arteriography.

Peripheral endothelial function and arterial stiffness in patients with chronic migraine: a case-control study.

Background: Migraine is a complex and disabilitating neurovascular disorder predominantly affecting women. There is strong evidence that nitric oxide is critically involved in migraine pathophysiology. The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that chronic migraine is associated with ultrasonographic endothelial dysfunction and increase in arterial stiffness.

Descriptive analysis of viral meningitis in a general hospital: differences in the characteristics between children and adults.

Introduction And Objectives: our study aims to identify the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of viral meningitis in our environment and observe the differences with age.

Material And Methods: retrospective study of viral meningitis that required admission to our hospital between 2000 and 2008. We compare characteristics between groups of children (under 15 years) and adults (15 years or older).

[Sub-acute encephalopathy that responds to steroids without any evidence of autoimmune thyroid disease: a case of non-vasculitic autoimmune meningoencephalitis].

Aim: To report a case of sub-acute encephalopathy with all the extension study negative and with response to steroid therapy.

Case Report: The study involves a 22-year-old female with no relevant past history who presented symptoms of sub-acute encephalopathy consisting in behavioural disorders, generalised seizures and bradypsychia, which gradually progressed to a state of low-level consciousness. While she was in hospital all kinds of diagnostic tests were conducted, the results of which were either normal or negative; the electroencephalogram was repeatedly abnormal and detection of protein 14-3-3 in cerebrospinal fluid was positive.
