XIII International Conference on Kangaroo Mother Care - Different opinions, experiences and related KMC issues: Good practices, stabilisation concept, nutrition and basic respiratory support.

Aim: This study aimed to summarise the views and experiences of the participants in the workshop of the XIII International Conference on Kangaroo Mother Care (KMC).

Methods: The results of the discussions held during the workshop of the XIII International Conference on KMC were summarised. There were 152 participants from 47 countries.

Reducing Early Antibiotic Use: A Quality Improvement Initiative in a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Unlabelled: Antibiotic burden is a critical issue in neonatal intensive care units (NICU) and antibiotic use is considered a quality indicator of neonatal care. Our aim was to optimize antibiotic use through a quality improvement (QI) initiative that included revision of departmental protocols and implementation of a surveillance system based on process indicators.

Methods: This is descriptive study of a cohort of all very low birth weight (VLBW) infants admitted to the NICU from 2014 to 2019.

Good practices in perinatal care and breastfeeding protection during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic: a national situation analysis among BFHI maternity hospitals in Spain.

Background: Although the positive effects of good clinical quality standards in perinatal care and breastfeeding support for women, newborns and families have been already demonstrated, many of these practices were disrupted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The objective of this study was to analyse the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on perinatal care and breastfeeding support practices offered by the Spanish maternity hospitals committed to the UNICEF Baby-friendly Hospital Initiative (BFHI), to women with and without COVID-19.

Methods: Implementation of perinatal practices was assessed by a cross-sectional survey conducted in May 2020 using an online questionnaire.

[Hot-water epilepsy: case report in an infant].

Hot-water epilepsy is a rare type of seizure whose pathophysiology is unknown. These reflex seizures usually begin a few seconds after contact with water, commonly at temperatures between 37-48 ºC. Automations and complex partial crises, with or without secondary generalization, are the main manifestation mode of this type of reflex epilepsies.

Eight principles for newborn care in neonatal units: Findings from a national survey.

Aim: To assess, at national level, the implementation of eight principles for infant- and family-centred developmental care (IFCDC) in neonatal units. A European expert group established eight 'Principles of care' in 2018 that define neurodevelopmental and family-centred care.

Methods: The implementation of each principle was assessed by a survey sent to level-III Spanish units.

Short communication: Effect of refrigerated storage on the pH and bacterial content of pasteurized human donor milk.

Once pasteurized donor milk is thawed for its administration to a preterm or sick neonate, and until it is administered, it is kept refrigerated at 4 to 6°C for 24 h. After this time, unconsumed milk is discarded. This time has not been extended, primarily because of the concern of bacterial contamination.
