Unlabelled: In this article, we investigate a growing trend in the worldwide Quantum Technology (QT) education landscape, that of the development of master's programs, intended to provide graduates with the knowledge and skills to take a job in the quantum industry, while serving a much shorter timeline than a doctoral degree. Through a global survey, we identified 86 master's programs, with substantial growth since 2021. Over time master's have become increasingly interdisciplinary, organised by multiple faculties or through joint degree programs, and offer more hands-on experiences such as internships in companies.

In atopic dermatitis (AD), the real-world impact of achieving itch and skin lesion treatment targets compared to partial improvement remains unclear. We assessed the relationship between itch relief (reduction in Worst Itch Numeric Rating Scale [WI-NRS]) and skin clearance (Investigator Global Assessment [IGA] 0/1) with other patient-reported outcomes. Using TARGET-DERM AD registry data on adults receiving standard-of-care treatment, we described and modeled the relationship of itch severity (Worst Itch Numeric Rating Scale [WI-NRS]) and skin lesion severity (IGA) outcomes with patient-reported (quality of life ([DLQI)], AD severity [(POEM]), sleep ([Sleep-NRS]), and skin pain [(Pain-NRS]).

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to compare running performance in soccer by analyzing two types of games: possession games (no specific roles) and positional games (specific roles) among 25 professional players.
  • Results showed that positional games resulted in less overall distance, peak speed, and player load compared to possession games, but positional games had higher values for acceleration and deceleration metrics.
  • Additionally, larger pitch sizes in positional games led to better performance metrics than smaller or medium sizes, indicating that the dimensions of the game significantly affect player load and training outcomes.

Lignin is an unlimited resource of an aromatic natural polymer useful for multiple applications, though its use remains limited due to the lack of technology developments. The introduction of lignin as coating of fibers and textile for composites is being recently studied with very promising results. Here, commercial woven carbon fibers (WCFs) have been superficially modified following an easy approach to introduce lignin and carbonize it to enhance the electrochemical performance of the fibers.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study examines the management of Trachomatous Trichiasis (TT) after eliminating Trachoma inflammation-follicular (TF) in children, focusing on the timeline and program requirements based on data from women in Kongwa, Tanzania.
  • - Using Markov models, the incidence rates of scarring progression (from no scarring to TT) were analyzed, revealing that higher community prevalence of TF significantly increases the risk of scarring.
  • - The findings indicate that even after achieving TF elimination, some districts may continue to experience cases of TT for decades, particularly in areas with a history of TF prevalence above 5%.

  • Many drugs, including alcohol, disrupt a process called long-term synaptic depression (LTD) in the brain, which is linked to substance use disorders.
  • Previous studies indicated that some forms of LTD mediated by specific opioid receptors (mu) are weakened by opioid and alcohol exposure, whereas others (delta and kappa) might not be affected.
  • Research found that in adult male mice, delta and kappa receptor-mediated LTD remained intact after alcohol consumption, suggesting that alcohol's disruptive effects on GPCR-mediated LTD aren't uniform across different types of receptors.

Single-molecule localization microscopy has proved promising to unravel the dynamics and molecular architecture of thin biological samples down to nanoscales. For applications in complex, thick biological tissues shifting single-particle emission wavelengths to the shortwave infrared (SWIR also called NIR II) region between 900 to 2100 nm, where biological tissues are more transparent is key. To date, mainly single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) enable such applications, but they are inherently 1D objects.

Article Synopsis
  • The GET initiative aims to eliminate trachoma using the SAFE strategy, which includes Surgery, Antibiotics, Facial cleanliness, and Environmental improvement, but lacks a standardized measure for facial cleanliness.
  • This study evaluated two metrics for measuring facial cleanliness among children in Tanzania: one based on the absence of ocular and nasal discharge and the other based on dirtiness graded on a facial wipe.
  • Both metrics were found to be equally reliable and effectively detected face washing behavior, although they measure different aspects of cleanliness, suggesting the choice of metric should align with specific measurement goals.
