Cancer is a devastating disease worldwide with high mortality rates and is a foremost concern for society. Immunotherapy has emerged as a promising strategy for treating cancer, harnessing the power of immune system to recognize and kill tumor cells. Bacterial ghosts (BGs), a novel platform in cancer vaccination, are suitable for personalized and effective immunotherapeutic interventions.

In Australia, dystocia is responsible for 53% of lamb mortalities, and calcium deficiencies may be a contributing factor. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effects of a negative DCAD diet on metabolic state, mineral status, and parturition duration in ewes compared with those fed a positive DCAD diet.

The effects of maternal calcium status during late gestation on lamb growth and survival in twin-bearing Merino ewes grazing pasture.

Our project aimed to investigate whether low maternal calcium status during late gestation decreased weight, growth and survival of lambs born to twin-bearing Merino ewes grazing pasture. On day 130 of gestation, approximately a 10 mL blood sample was collected from 108 twin-bearing Merino ewes. Blood pH and calcium ion concentration were measured in whole blood and serum was analysed for calcium, magnesium, phosphate, beta hydroxy butyrate, non-esterified fatty acids and cholesterol.

Purpose: This study evaluated an impression disinfectant by testing bacterial contamination of disinfectant batches used in a clinical setting after repeated use.

Materials And Methods: Liquid samples were collected from impression disinfectant solutions used to disinfect dental impressions taken at a university dental clinic.

This enables bacterial colonization in different environments and, while guaA is widely distributed among Bacteroidetes and Firmicutes, its contribution to the inhabitation of the human microbiome by commensal bacteria is unclear. We studied Streptococcus as a commensal urogenital tract bacterium and opportunistic pathogen, and explored the role of guaA in bacterial survival and colonization of urine.

Environmental Factors Driving Spatial Heterogeneity in Desert Halophile Microbial Communities.

Spatial heterogeneity in microbial communities is observed in all natural ecosystems and can stem from both adaptations to local environmental conditions as well as stochastic processes. Extremophile microbial communities inhabiting evaporitic halite nodules (salt rocks) in the Atacama Desert, Chile, are a good model ecosystem for investigating factors leading to microbiome heterogeneity, due to their diverse taxonomic composition and the spatial segregation of individual nodules. We investigated the abiotic factors governing microbiome composition across different spatial scales, allowing for insight into the factors that govern halite colonization from regional desert-wide scales to micro-scales within individual nodules.

The Use of Debates in an Online Nursing Course.

Background: It is important to foster active participation in online graduate nursing courses through creative teaching strategies, such as virtual synchronous debates.

Method: A free videoconferencing system was used to complete the virtual synchronous debates. Demographic information and survey data were obtained to assess the impact of an online debate on critical thinking and presentation skills.

Assessing the Impact of a Preclinical Immersion on Nurse Practitioner Student Confidence for the Initial Clinical Experience.
