Carbon dots in biosensing have advanced significantly, adding improvements to different detection techniques. In this study, an amperometric immunosensor for Salmonella Thyphimurium was designed using antibodies labeled with carbon dots (Cdots) from pequi almond (Caryocar brasiliensis). Cdots were synthesized by pyrolysis and characterized by FTIR, UV/fluorescence, electrochemistry, zeta potential, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Given the high hydrophobicity of this compound and aiming to create efficient vehicle for its administration in aqueous systems, the objective of the present work was to develop a microcapsule (MCAA) by spray dryer technique, based on the polysaccharide sodium hyaluronate (SH), containing AA as its core, encapsulated from nanoemulsion. The Encapsulation Efficiency of MCAA presented a value equal to 95.

We investigated total mercury (THg) contamination in fish in four cascade reservoirs in the Brazilian Amazon between August 2022 and April 2023. Overall, downstream predatory fish showed higher mercury concentrations than those upstream.

Understanding and predicting variations in the adoption of these safeguards is crucial for both theoretical advancement and practical application. While existing frameworks are often adapted from health science literature, there is potential to enhance these models by incorporating criminological constructs relevant to online victimization.

Objective: One objective of this study was to assess and compare the quality of life (QoL) and swallowing ability of resistant hypertensive patients with and without OSA.
The resurgent navigation project known as the Hidrovia Paraguay-Paraná threatens the integrity of the Pantanal, the world's largest wetland, which is considered a biome of its own. Intensive barge navigation is intended to transport crops (soybean, sugar, corn) and cement, iron and manganese from areas of production in Brazil, Paraguay and Bolivia to the oceanic ports of the Plata River. This short communication assembles the information available on the potential impacts of the planned deepening of the natural channel of the Paraguay River in its ~700 km-long upper section.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of non-thermal methods, using high hydrostatic pressure (HHP) and pulsed electric field (PEF), on the dual modification of quinoa starch and to analyze the microstructural, morphological, thermal, pasting, and texture properties. Starch was treated with HHP at 400 MPa for 10 min, while PEF was applied using voltages of 10 and 30 kV cm for a total time of 90s. The modification techniques were effective in breaking down amylose molecules and amylopectin branches, where for the dual treatment, higher values of DP6-12 were found.

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of freezing rates using direct (LF: Liquid nitrogen) and indirect (RF: Cryogenic refrigerator and UF: ultra-freezer) methods at temperatures of (-20, -80, and - 196 °C) on the enzymatic susceptibility with α-amylase for microparticles. In vitro digestibility parameters and technological properties were also analyzed. Lower rates resulted in larger ice crystals, damaging the starch structure.

A series of steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopies were performed on a set of eight carbene-metal-amide (cMa) complexes, where M = Cu and Au, that have been used as photosensitizers for photosensitized electrocatalytic reactions. Using ps-to-ns and ns-to-ms transient absorption spectroscopies (psTA and nsTA, respectively), the excited-state kinetics from light absorption, intersystem crossing (ISC), and eventually intermolecular charge transfer were thoroughly characterized. Using time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC) and psTA with a thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF) model, the variation in intersystem crossing (ISC), ( → ) rates (∼3-120 × 10 s), and Δ values (73-115 meV) for these compounds were fully characterized, reflecting systematic changes to the carbene, carbazole, and metal.

We combine anatomical and ecophysiological data to evaluate how trichomes affect leaf gas exchange and water balance during drought. We studied two congeneric species with pubescent leaves which co-occur in Brazilian Caatinga: Croton blanchetianus (dense trichomes) and Croton adenocalyx (sparse trichomes).

Methods: A total of 68 patients that were scheduled to have PRK to correct myopia were randomized into two groups: 34 patients (68 eyes) in the study group and 34 patients (68 eyes) in the control group. Ocular examinations were performed on postoperative days 1, 4, 7, 30, and 90, evaluating the diameter of the de-epithelized cornea, the fluorescein staining using the Oxford scale, the tear film osmolarity and stability (tear breakup time), and the pain using visual analog scale (VAS).
Parasite diversity can be influenced by the interaction of environmental factors and host traits, but understanding which traits can be decisive for the establishment of the parasite may provide subsidies for a better understanding of the host-parasite relationship. In this study, we investigated whether functional traits, diet, and host phylogeny can predict the similarity of the endoparasite composition of a fish assemblage in a Brazilian floodplain. Of the three evaluated components, the host's diet was the factor that showed the greatest influence on the composition and similarity of endoparasites, demonstrating the highest value of the explanation.

The objective of this study was to investigate the dual modification of red rice starch using pulsed electric field (PEF) and α-amylase, focusing on morpho-structural, thermal, and viscoamylographic properties. Native starch (Control) underwent various treatments: PEF at 30 kV cm (PEF30), α-amylase at 9.0 U mg (AA0), and a combination of both (PEF30 + α and α + PEF30).

Objectives: Patients hospitalized with stroke develop delirium at higher rates than general hospitalized patients. While several medications are associated with existing delirium, it is unknown whether early medication exposures are associated with subsequent delirium in patients with stroke. Additionally, it is unknown whether delirium identification is associated with changes in the prescription of these medications.

Generating sustainable fuel from sunlight plays an important role in meeting the energy demands of the modern age. Herein, we report two-coordinate carbene-metal-amide (cMa, M = Cu(I) and Au(I)) complexes that can be used as sensitizers to promote the light-driven reduction of water to hydrogen. The cMa complexes studied here absorb visible photons (ε > 10 M cm), maintain long excited-state lifetimes (τ ∼ 0.

Then, we discuss the possibility of occurring damage or mutation in its genome due to the presence of quantum vacuum fluctuations inside and around the RNA ribbon. For this, we consider the geometry and the nontrivial topology of the viral RNA as having a simple helical structure.
