Assessment of risk factors for bone fractures in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus: A study in Saudi Arabia.

Background And Aims: This study aimed to estimate the prevalence of bone fractures and analyze their associated risk factors in people with and without type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Saudi Arabia.

Methods: This study was conducted among 1188 people (581 type 2 diabetes) in Prince Sultan Military Medical City, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. In addition to the demographic variables, glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), creatinine, estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR), use of teriparatide, presence of rheumatoid arthritis, presence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), Bone mineral density (BMD), Trabecular Bone Score (TBS) and Fracture Risk using the Fracture Risk Assessment Tool (FRAX) were also collected.
