Background Albumin is a negative acute-phase protein as its levels fall after injury, sepsis, and surgical stress. A review of the literature suggests that serum albumin level drops rapidly after surgery in adults and correlates well with the outcomes. However, there is limited data on the use of peri-operative fall in serum albumin levels as an outcome predictor in children undergoing emergency abdominal surgeries.
