Article Synopsis
  • Several studies have focused on the use of monoclonal antibodies to differentiate between adenocarcinomas of endometrial (EM) and endocervical (EC) origins, but results have varied.
  • In the current study, various antibodies were used on paraffin blocks from adenocarcinomas with known origins, scoring immunostaining patterns to understand influences from site of origin and differentiation pathways.
  • Ultimately, no single stain or combination was consistently reliable for distinguishing between EM and EC; however, high scores of VIM and estrogen receptor in endometrioid tumors could suggest an endometrial origin with about 95% accuracy.
