Background: Patients with STEMI receive dual antiplatelet therapy as soon as possible with aspirin and a P2Y receptor antagonist prior to PCI. A fraction of these patients may have multi-vessel disease needing emergent CABG surgery. The choice of a P2Y receptor antagonist plays a role in the timing of CABG surgery as it poses a bleeding risk until it is completely eliminated from the system.

Methods: Thirty-seven patients (pts; 33 men, mean age 50+/-12, range 25-68 years) with paroxysmal AF (n=29) and persistent AF (n=8) who underwent mapping of the LA and PV using 3D non-contact endocardial mapping system (EnSite 3000) were included. Atrial premature complexes (APCs) which triggered the initiation of AF lasted longer than 1 min were mapped and the activation sequence on isopotential color maps was analyzed.
Objective: Previously, we demonstrated that a novel opiate peptide, 2',6'-dimethyl-tyrosine-D-Arg-Phe-Lys-NH2, provided cardioprotection against myocardial stunning in vivo. We subsequently showed that this peptide targeted mitochondria and can scavenge reactive oxygen species. The objective of this study was to determine the role of opioid versus antioxidant activity in cardioprotection.

Patients who are on chronic warfarin therapy and receive a coronary stent need to be treated with the triple therapy of aspirin, clopidogrel and warfarin; however, the bleeding risk in these patients is unknown. To evaluate the bleeding risk in patients requiring chronic warfarin therapy and undergoing stent implantation, we compared 107 consecutive patients on chronic warfarin therapy who underwent coronary stenting and were discharged on aspirin, clopidogrel and warfarin to 107 contemporary patients who were treated with aspirin and clopidogrel.
