Introduction A wound that has not healed in a timely and organized manner to maintain its anatomical and functional integrity is considered chronic. It can last anywhere from four weeks to over three months and could be caused by trauma, diabetes, vascular disease, infection, or pressure. The primary objective of the study was to determine the prevalence of wounds in a rural and urban community in India, and the secondary objective was to evaluate the effect of various chronic wounds on quality of life (QoL) as assessed by the Short-Form Health Survey-36 (SF-36) questionnaire.

A case series analysis of spigelian hernia: A diagnostic dilemma and its successful laparoscopic repair.

The following conditions can cause chronic wounds: panniculitis, pyoderma gangrenosum, traumatic, neurological, metabolic, hematologic, neoplastic, or infection-related.

Role of Bovine Colostrum Dressing on Chronic Non-Healing Wounds in Comparison to Conventional Dressing: A Case-Control Study.

Colostrum has been shown to be suitable for oral and/or topical applications. Colostrum decreases the amount of discharge from wounds and also accelerates healing, leading to a decrease in the number of dressings. In this study, 40 patients with chronic non-healing wounds were divided into two groups, considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Aims: PEBP1, an endogenous inhibitor of Raf/MEK/ERK signaling pathway, is a tumor suppressor gene.

Platelet functions in lymphatic filariasis patients.

Filariasis is a chronic disease where parasitic worms survive in human hosts even for decades and lead to complications like lymphedema and elephantiasis. Despite the persistent existence of filarial parasites in human hosts, fatal and thrombotic complications are not known, unlike other parasitic diseases like malaria. This suggests that filarial parasites might be affecting the host's platelet functions.

An Interesting Case of Isolated Cysticercosis of Breast Masquerading as a Breast Lump in a Young Female.

Human cysticercosis can affect any tissue or organ in the body and may be asymptomatic or manifest clinical signs and symptoms depending on the area of the body where cysticerci are found. However, at the same time, the involvement of the breast by cysticercosis is an extremely rare phenomenon, with very few case reports published before. In this report, we present the case of a 26-year-old married woman who came with a history of painless swelling in the left breast.

A Comparative Study on Outcomes and Quality of Life Changes Following Ventral Transabdominal Preperitoneal (Ventral-TAPP) and Laparoscopic Intraperitoneal Onlay Mesh (IPOM)-Plus Repair for Ventral Hernia.

Background Ventral transabdominal preperitoneal (ventral-TAPP) repair and intraperitoneal onlay mesh (IPOM) plus repair are two options among the available techniques of laparoscopic ventral hernia repair (LVHR). We conducted a comparative study to evaluate the clinical and quality of life (QoL)-related outcomes between ventral-TAPP and IPOM-plus repair. It was hypothesized that both procedures offered similar outcomes and QoL.

This study evaluates the association between macrophage function, IL-2 expression, and wound microflora in chronic DFUs. Diabetic patients with DFUs (group 1, n = 40) and without DFUs (group 2, n = 40) were compared for macrophage function in serum by viability testing.

Effect of negative pressure wound therapy on wound thermometry in diabetic foot ulcers.

Background: Negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is the treatment of choice for diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs), and the role of NPWT in the management of DFU is limited. The aim of the study was to compare the effects of NPWT versus conventional dressing (CD) on wound healing in DFU.

Materials And Methods: A total of 55 patients were included and divided into two groups: 23 patients were treated with NPWT and 32 patients with CD.

Clinical Significance of Overexpression of Oct4 in Advanced Stage Gallbladder Carcinoma.

Background: Oct4 has critical role in maintaining pluripotency, proliferative potential, and self-renewal capacity in embryonic stem and germ cells. Although Oct4 has been shown to be upregulated in many cancers, its clinical significance in gallbladder carcinoma is poorly understood.

Methods: We studied the expression profile of Oct4 in 61 GBC and 30 chronic cholecystitis (as control) using real time RT-PCR, western blotting, and immunohistochemistry.

Gossypiboma Complicating as Colouterine Fistula in a Young Woman Post-Cesarean Section.

Gossypiboma is a mass of foreign body with cotton matrix accidentally left inside the body after a surgical procedure. It is a surgeon's nightmare and has a varied presentation ranging from asymptomatic cases to the formation of an abscess, mass, intestinal obstruction/perforation, malabsorption, gastrointestinal hemorrhage, and various internal and external fistulization. Genital tract fistulas are one of the most distressing conditions for women of reproductive age that not only hamper their day-to-day work but also impair their social life and psychological state.

Vulvar aggressive angiomyxoma: a surgical challenge.

Aggressive angiomyxoma is a rare and locally aggressive mesenchymal tumour, predominantly occurring in women of reproductive age group. The term aggressive is attributed to the infiltrative nature and frequent local recurrences. They arise commonly from the vulvovaginal region, perineum or pelvis and are usually misdiagnosed as other common entities in these regions.

A Study of Anxiety and Depression in Benign Breast Disease.

Background: To compare the prevalence of anxiety and depression levels in patients with benign breast disease (BBD) and healthy individuals using Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HADS) and Brief Patient Health Questionnaire (BPHQ).

Methods: This study includes 100 patients who were clinically suspected of having BBDs and were matched against 100 healthy age-matched controls from June 2016 and July 2018. The diagnosis of BBD was established on the basis of ultrasonography, fine needle aspiration cytology, and/or histopathology.

Significant presence of biofilm-producing gut-derived bacteria in anal fistula of chronic duration.

Fistula-in-ano though not a life-threatening condition, yet its symptoms often significantly impact patients' social, intimate, and work lives. There is an established role of bacterial microflora in acute infections. However, we proposed that biofilm-forming organisms might be present in the microflora of anal fistula of prolonged duration.

Frequent Downregulation and Promoter Hypermethylation of DLC1: Relationship with Clinical Outcome in Gallbladder Cancer.

Introduction: Down regulation of DLC1 is associated with poor prognosis in many cancers, however, its role in gallbladder cancer (GBC) is still unclear. In present study, we investigated the expression profile and promoter methylation status of DLC1.

Methods: Expression profiles of DLC1 in 55 GBC and their paired adjacent control samples were analyzed through real time RT-PCR and immunohistochemistry.

Utility of Real-Time Online Teaching During COVID Era Among Surgery Postgraduates.

A cross-sectional study was conducted to assess the utility of online teaching for general surgery postgraduate residents at the end of 1 month of online teaching during the COVID-19 lockdown. A questionnaire related to different aspects of online teaching was developed on a 5-point Likert scale from "strongly agree" to "strongly disagree". Following a pilot study, the questionnaire was shared among surgery residents, and response collection was done.

TRAIL receptors are differentially regulated and clinically significant in gallbladder cancer.

Deregulation of the receptors of TNF-related apoptosis inducing ligand (TRAIL) has been reported in various cancers. In an effort to define the role of these receptors we profiled their expression in gallbladder cancer (GBC) and explored their clinical significance. Expression of TRAIL receptors' mRNA in GBC was analysed through reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and protein through western blotting, immunohistochemistry and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA).

Background: Despite the recent campaigns to eliminate smoking, the rates are still increasing world-wide. Exposure to passive smoking (PS) is associated with morbidity and mortality from awful diseases. Although many college students smoke, little is known about their exposure to PS, common places and sources of exposures in Saudi Arabia.

Massive gangrene of the stomach due to primary antiphospholipid syndrome: report of two cases.

Antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) is a systemic autoimmune disease, which may be primary or secondary to other autoimmune diseases. It produces thrombosis of arteries and veins of any caliber, and no organ is immune to its insult. This report describes two cases of massive gastric gangrene due to primary APS, which presented in a span of 2 years.
