Six distinct COI mitochondrial Haplotype Groups (HG) are morphologically, ecologically, and genetically characterized from the aquatic nematode family Tobrilidae. Collection locations included the extreme habitats of the Alkaline Lakes in the western Nebraska Sandhills and the contaminated stream, Johnson Creek, bordering the AltEn 2021 catastrophic pesticide release near the village of Mead in eastern Nebraska. Maximum likelihood and genetic distance metrics supported the genetic integrity of the haplotype groups.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFGDF15, a hormone acting on the brainstem, has been implicated in the nausea and vomiting of pregnancy, including its most severe form, hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), but a full mechanistic understanding is lacking. Here we report that fetal production of GDF15 and maternal sensitivity to it both contribute substantially to the risk of HG. We confirmed that higher GDF15 levels in maternal blood are associated with vomiting in pregnancy and HG.

Growth Differentiation Factor-15 (GDF15), a hormone known to act on the hindbrain to cause emesis, is highly expressed in the placenta and its levels in maternal blood rise rapidly in pregnancy. Variants in the maternal gene are associated with HG.

In this case study, we examined a single taxon within a larger study of nematode diversity to evaluate the taxonomic resolution of different diversity assessment methods. The selected taxon was the microbial-feeding genus , a group considered to include multiple cosmopolitan species.

This paper examines current patterns of use and self-reported effectiveness of cannabis/cannabis-based products (CBP) to treat HG. The study employed a 21-question survey to gather information on demographics, antiemetic prescription use, and experience with cannabis/CBPs among individuals who experienced extreme nausea and vomiting or HG during their pregnancy.

It is characterized by populations with relatively abundant males, two lip annuli, females with a round functional spermatheca and a conoid to subcylindrical tail with a non-crenate, smooth terminus. In host preference tests, corn and wheat produce the largest nematode populations, whereas sorghum and soybeans produce less than 20% the numbers observed on corn.

Objective: To characterize the association between antepartum marijuana exposure and maternal and neonatal outcomes at our institution.
Study Design: Retrospective chart review identified an obstetric cohort of singleton gestations. Women with self-reported marijuana use were compared with non-users.
Hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) severity can be underestimated resulting in undertreatment and adverse outcomes. This study was conducted to validate a tool (HELP Score) designed to score HG severity. A survey link which included PUQE and HELP Score (HELP) tool questions was posted on websites related to HG.

Background: Hyperemesis gravidarum is a disabling disease of nausea, vomiting, and undernutrition in early pregnancy for which there are no effective outpatient therapies. Poor weight gain in hyperemesis gravidarum is associated with several adverse fetal outcomes including preterm delivery, low birthweight, small for gestational age, low 5-minute Apgar scores, and neurodevelopmental delay. Gabapentin is most commonly used clinically for treating neuropathic pain but also substantially reduces chemotherapy-induced and postoperative nausea and vomiting.

They play critical roles in regulating biogeochemical cycles and vegetation dynamics within and across landscapes and are an indicator of soil biological activity. Here, we present a comprehensive global dataset of soil nematode abundance and functional group composition.

Although no consensus definition is available for hyperemesis gravidarum (HG), it is typically viewed as the severe form of NVP and has been reported to occur in 0.3-10.

Hyperemesis gravidarum, severe nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, occurs in up to 2% of pregnancies and leads to significant weight loss, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and ketonuria. It is associated with both maternal and fetal morbidity. Familial aggregation studies and twin studies suggest a genetic component.

This was an exploratory descriptive study whereby neurodevelopmental outcomes of 267 children delivered by 177 mothers with HG were compared to neurodevelopmental outcomes from 93 children delivered by 60 unaffected mothers. Similar to at age 8, the children (now 12) exposed in utero to HG had over 3-fold increase in odds of neurodevelopmental disorders including attention, anxiety, sensory, sleep difficulty, and social development delay/social anxiety.

A maximum likelihood analysis grouped the specimens into 19 well-supported clades and four single-specimen lineages. The "major" tropical apomictic species ( Meloidogyne arenaria , Meloidogyne incognita , Meloidogyne javanica ) were not discriminated by this barcode although some closely related species such as Meloidogyne konaensis were characterized by fixed diagnostic nucleotides.

Molecular characters may lead to their stabilization. A phylogenetic tree of Criconematoidea was constructed using 166 new near full-length 18S rDNA sequences and 58 sequences from GenBank.
