Acknowledging the detrimental effects of prolonged sitting, this study examined the effects of an acute exercise break during prolonged sitting on executive function, cortical hemodynamics, and microvascular status. In this randomized crossover study, 71 college students completed three conditions: (i) uninterrupted sitting (SIT); (ii) SIT with a 15 min moderate-intensity cycling break (MIC); and (iii) SIT with a 15 min vigorous-intensity cycling break (VIC). Behavioral outcomes, retinal vessel diameters (central retinal artery equivalents [CRAE], retinal vein equivalents [CRVE], arteriovenous ratio [AVR]), cortical activation, and effective connectivity were evaluated.

Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) can measure neural activity through blood oxygenation changes in the brain in a wearable form factor, enabling unique applications for research in and outside the lab and in practical occupational settings. fNIRS has proven capable of measuring cognitive states such as mental workload, often using machine learning (ML) based brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). Background: Significant recent efforts have facilitated increased access to clinical genetics assessment and genomic sequencing for children with rare diseases in many centres, but there remains a service gap for adults. The Austin Health Adult Undiagnosed Disease Program (AHA-UDP) was designed to complement existing UDP programs that focus on paediatric rare diseases and address an area of unmet diagnostic need for adults with undiagnosed rare conditions in Victoria, Australia. It was conducted at a large Victorian hospital to demonstrate the benefits of bringing genomic techniques currently used predominantly in a research setting into hospital clinical practice, and identify the benefits of enrolling adults with undiagnosed rare diseases into a UDP program.

Aims And Background: The current report details transition of outsourced conventional dialysis therapy in the ICU services to an in-house prolonged intermittent renal replacement therapy (PIRRT) service model as a quality improvement project using the Tablo Hemodialysis System, Outset Medical, Inc. The goals were aimed at maintaining or improving clinical outcomes, while also reducing dialysis-related nursing staff burden and dialysis-related treatment costs.

Introduction: Functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) aims to infer cognitive states such as the type of movement imagined by a study participant in a given trial using an optical method that can differentiate between oxygenation states of blood in the brain and thereby indirectly between neuronal activity levels. We present findings from an fNIRS study that aimed to test the applicability of a high-density (>3000 channels) NIRS device for use in short-duration (2 s) left/right hand motor imagery decoding in a diverse, but not explicitly balanced, subject population. A side aim was to assess relationships between data quality, self-reported demographic characteristics, and brain-computer interface (BCI) performance, with no subjects rejected from recruitment or analysis.
