Diminishing the charge recombination rate by improving the photoelectrochemical (PEC) performance of graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) is essential for better water oxidation. In this concern, this research explores the competent approach to enhance the PEC performance of g-CN nanosheets (NSs), creating their nanocomposites (NCs) with metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived porous CeO nanobars (NBs) along with ZnO nanorods (NRs) and TiO nanoparticles (NPs). The synthesis involved preparing CeO NBs and g-CN NSs through the calcination of respective precursors, while the sol-gel method is employed for ZnO NRs and TiO NPs.

Herein, the efficient serotonin (5-HT) sensing studies have been conducted using the (ZnO NRs)(CNs) nanocomposites (NCs) having appropriate structural and electrochemical properties. Initially, the different compositions of ZnO nanorods (NRs), with varying content of carbon nanostructures (CNs=MWCNTs and RGO), are prepared using simple in-situ wet chemical method and thereafter these NCs have been characterized for physico-chemical properties in correlation to the 5-HT sensing activity. XRD Rietveld refinement studies reveal the hexagonal Wurtzite ZnO NRs oriented in (101) direction with space group 'P6mc' and both orientation as well as phase of ZnO NRs are also retained in the NCs due to the small content of CNs.

We have recently developed a decision support system for early skin cancer detection that relies on analysis of the pigmentation characteristics of a skin lesion, detected using crosspolarization imaging, and the increased vasculature associated with malignant lesions that is detected using transillumination imaging. Current system uses size difference based on lesion physiology and achieves great overall accuracy (86.9%).

This work presents techniques developed for automated image segmentation and classification of skin lesions as malignant or benign based on the ground truth. For each skin lesion two images are obtained, one in each of two different modalities of epiluminescence microscopy (ELM): side-transillumination which highlights the subsurface vasculature and surface pigmentation, and cross polarization, which only highlights the details of skin surface pigmentation. The automated procedure consists of three steps: i) Segmentation of images, using three segmentation methods; ii) Selection of the most accurate segmentation results based on a weighted scoring technique; and iii) classification of the lesion as malignant or benign by verifying the presence of a ring of hypervascularity around the lesion in the side transillumination images.

The DermLite II is an improvement on a previous instrument allowing for dermoscopy to be carried out without the need of immersion oil. It consists of a magnifying lens encircled by light-emitting diodes that can be adjusted for polarization or can be customized by the manufacturer to produce colors of specific wavelengths for visualizing pigmentation and structures of various dermal depths. This new version of the DermLite makes it very convenient for the evaluation of not just pigmented lesions, but nonpigmented skin cancers, scalp disease, and vascular patterns.
