: Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs), primarily driven by atherosclerosis, are the leading cause of mortality worldwide. In Saudi Arabia, the prevalence of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) poses a significant public health challenge. To estimate the 10-year ASCVD risk among adults in Al-Ahsa, Saudi Arabia, and identify prevalent risk factors such as age, gender, diabetes, hypertension, smoking, cholesterol, and preventive medication use.

Increasing same-day emergency care activity in an existing ambulatory care unit using quality improvement methodology.

This project aimed to increase same-day emergency care (SDEC)-suitable activity within an existing ambulatory medical unit, in line with the recommendations set out in the NHS Long Term Plan. Prior to the project, much of the unit's activity was non-urgent and focused on supporting early discharges. Scoping exercises were undertaken to better understand current activity and identify interventions to increasing same-day referrals from within the urgent and emergency care system.

This work demonstrates successful triplet sensitization of a CdSe quantum dot (QD)-bound oligothiophene carboxylic acid (T6). A novel 1,3,2-diazaphospholidine (N-heterocyclic phosphine)-thiourea-mediated phospha-Mannich/intramolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction has been developed for the construction of an N-C-P bond unit. This transformation enabled a rapid access to cyclic tertiary α-amino phosphonates in one-pot procedure under additive-free mild reaction conditions. This study revealed the critical role of thiourea moiety of the N-heterocyclic phosphine-thiourea in the sequential intramolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction of the phosphonylation.

Utility of Bifunctional N-Heterocyclic Phosphine (NHP)-Thioureas for Metal-Free Carbon-Phosphorus Bond Construction toward Regio- and Stereoselective Formation of Vinylphosphonates.

An efficient and practical protocol for completely regioselective and highly stereoselective synthesis of vinyldiazaphosphonates from N-heterocyclic phosphine (NHP) and allenes via phospha-Michael/intramolecular nucleophilic substitution reaction has been developed. This transformation enabled the synthesis of valuable densely functionalized vinyldiazaphosphonates with a β-, γ-unsaturated ester moiety under mild reaction conditions. Highly sensitive detection of saccharides under physiological conditions with click synthesized boronic acid-oligomer fluorophores.

Two phenylboronic acid based saccharide sensors bearing conjugated oligomer fluorophores with linear and cruciform π-frameworks were synthesized in a modular approach utilizing a Cu-catalyzed alkyne azide cycloaddition (click) reaction. The cruciform fluorophore showed excellent saccharide sensing function under physiological conditions in the mM range, whereas the linear fluorophore gave very limited sensing functions. The different fluorescent sensing behaviours highlight the important role of oligomer fluorophore in the development of effective saccharide sensors.

Middle East aircrew use of alcohol, tobacco, coffee, and medicaments.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to assess the prevalence of the use of alcohol, tobacco, coffee, and various medications among flying crew and clerks working in a ministry in Kuwait.

Methods: In a cross-sectional study, a self-administered questionnaire was filled in by 277 flying crew and 302 clerks of a comparable age and gender ratio.

Results: Frequencies of using alcohol, tobacco, coffee, and various medications were much higher among flying crew as compared to clerks.

Effect of angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and angiotensins on human sperm functions.

The presence of components of the renin angiotensin system (RAS) and specific receptors of angiotensin II in the female and male reproductive tract supports the hypothesis that reproductive functions may be controlled by RAS. Therefore, the present study investigated the influence of ACE and angiotensins on sperm functions and the sperm-egg interaction. The experiments did not indicate direct effects of ACE on the capacitation process or acrosome reaction.
