Sera from prospective transplant patients are usually screened for HLA antibodies prior to transplantation, but presently available tests do not permit quantification of the humoral alloantigen directed response. We adapted a culture system for isolated human B-lymphocytes to assay the secretion of HLA-antibodies on a single cell basis. B-cell supernatants were screened for HLA antibodies by complement dependent cytotoxicity.

He was treated with antibiotics, plasmapheresis and hemodialysis. Although hematologic values improved, the patient remained hemodialysis-dependent for six months.

We studied antibody responses to pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (Pneumovax-23) and to conjugated H.

In all, 154 pairs of cells (composed of 65 hippocampal and 56 accumbens neurons) were examined during the 1 s period prior to reward delivery. Cross-correlation analyses over a +/- 300-ms window with 10-ms bins revealed that 108 pairs had at least one significant histogram bin (P < 0.

Inspection of the tissue architecture revealed that melanocytes are regularly interspersed only in the basal layer and transfer melanosomes to the keratinocytes. We report for the first time, the in vitro formation of supranuclear melanin caps above the keratinocyte nuclei.

In previous reports we showed the presence of MT-associated motor proteins kinesin and cytoplasmic dynein on the melanosomal surface, forming a link with MT (Vancoillie et al. Sixteen male Long-Evans rats, under partial water deprivation, were trained in a plus-maze to find water rewards in the respective arms which were lit in pseudo-random sequence (training trials). Each day one reward arm was selected to deliver six drops of water (at 1 s intervals) the others provided only one drop per visit.

Material And Methods: Both flow cytometry and complement dependent cytotoxicity studies were used in the current analysis.
Objectives: To assess exposure of commercial application workers to the nematocide cis-1,3-dichloropropene (cis-DCP).
Methods: The study was conducted during the annual application season, August to 15 November, in the starch potato growing region in The Netherlands. 14 Application workers collected end of shift urine samples on each fumigation day (n=119).
Over the past decade the human-immunodeficient mouse chimera has become a well-established in vivo model for studying the human immune system and/or hemopoiesis. Under certain experimental conditions and depending on the composition of the human cell graft, the recipient mice may develop a fatal disease, designated as discordant xenogenic graft-versus-host-disease (GVHD), which differs in target tissues and histopathology from allogenic GVHD. Experimental evidence is presented that immunodeficient mice are equally susceptible to allogenic GVHD as normal immunocompetent mice.

A component of the peripheral vasoconstriction is mediated by increased release of catecholamines into the fetal circulation during acute hypoxaemia. Previously, we have shown that the chick embryo also shows an increase in peripheral vascular resistance during acute hypoxaemia and that this response becomes progressively larger towards the end of the incubation period.

For this purpose, tissue architecture was examined by electron microscopy and epidermal lipid composition was analyzed by HPTLC. Stratum corneum lipid organization was investigated by electron microscopy in combination with RuO(4) post-fixation and by SAXD.

HLA-DRB1*0312 is similar to *03011 except for codon 57 (GAT-->AGC). DRB1*0432 is similar to *0413 but with a mutation at position 215, changing codon 72 (CGG-->CAG; Arg-->Gln).

Several studies provide arguments supporting the hypothesis that actin-based and microtubule-based motor proteins co-operate in melanosome transport towards the dendrite tips. Melanosomes can move bidirectionally along microtubules in vitro, and in murine melanocytes, they move towards the cell periphery and back again.

Entrapment of cells in alginate gel is a widely used mild immobilization procedure. However, alginate gel is not very suitable for use in long-term continuous soy-sauce processes because alginate is sensitive to abrasion and chemically unstable towards the high salt content of soy-sauce medium. Therefore, a chemically crosslinked polyethylene-oxide gel was used instead.

Like NMDA receptor-mediated [(3)H]-GABA release, that induced by prolonged (20 min) dopamine D1 receptor activation was enhanced on omission of external calcium, was action potential-independent (tetrodotoxin-insensitive), and was diminished by the GABA transporter blocker nipecotic acid, indicating the involvement of transporter-mediated release. Interestingly, lowering the external sodium concentration only reduced the stimulatory effect of NMDA.

To investigate whether immunotherapy might be feasible in uveal melanoma, the HLA class I surface expression of 6 uveal melanoma cell lines was analyzed by flow cytometry using a broad panel of allele-specific monoclonal antibodies. To up-regulate HLA expression, cells were also cultured with IFN-alpha or -gamma.

This hypersensitivity is associated with persistent changes in the reactivity of neurons of the motivational (mesocorticolim-bic) system in the brain. Using an animal model for relapse, recent studies in our laboratory show that relapse to drug-seeking behavior (following extinction of intravenous cocaine or heroin self-administration) depends on the occurrence of sensitization.

They are present in melanocytic dendrites through which melanosomes are transported towards keratinocytes. Besides the actin-based motility systems, microtubuli-associated motor proteins also play a critical role in melanosome movement, as has recently been confirmed in mouse melanocytes.
