Introduction: The Kayakalp guidelines for public healthcare facilities under the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan (Clean India Mission) focus on improving sanitation, cleanliness, and infection control at public hospitals in India. This study was conducted in a 960-bed tertiary-level teaching hospital in eastern India. Housekeeping has been a challenge in public institutions, with factors like overcrowding and resource constraints.

Context:  The generation of biomedical waste (BMW) in hospitals presents a significant hazard to both healthcare workers (HCWs) and the environment. The management of BMW is a challenge regarding inappropriate behavior among HCWs, leading to improper segregation of the BMW, which deserves attention. The indiscriminate BMW management issue in India has attracted the attention of the highest judicial bodies.

Making Our Hospitals a Safe Workplace: Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment at a Tertiary-Level Public Hospital in Eastern India.

Background: Hospitals are complex places with a large number of employees, patients, furniture, equipment, etc. Healthcare workers (HCWs), patients, or the general public are vulnerable to injuries and illness due to unseen hazards at the workplace. This study aims to identify the hazards and assess the risks at a hospital to ensure safety for HCWs, patients, and the public and generate awareness about the same.

Management of COVID-19 during the second wave at a tertiary care public hospital in Eastern India: An experience from the administrative control room.

Context: Though many arrangements had been made during the first wave, multiple complaints were reported regarding the arrangements made for COVID patients. The control room was set up as a 24 × 7 administrative coordination center to attend to issues after the initial setup of COVID units.

Aim: To identify the major problems reported to the control room during the second wave of COVID-19 and find the related cause for the same.

The whole world was shaken with the pandemic of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in end of the year 2019. Due to its novel origin, it was required to follow all precautions possible. Dealing with the massive amount of infectious healthcare waste became an enormous challenge.

How Much Does It Cost for a Surgical ICU Bed in a Public Hospital in India.

Introduction: Activity-based costing (ABC) is a costing technique that identifies the activities in an organization and assigns the cost to the activities based on the actual resources consumed for each activity. The method was used to ascertain the cost of surgical intensive care unit (SICU) bed in an institute of national importance, such as All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Bhubaneswar, from June 2019 to February 2021.

Objective: The present study aimed to ascertain the cost of SICU beds per day by the ABC technique.
