Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, heterogeneous, systemic autoimmune disease characterized by autoantibody production, complement activation, and immune complex deposition. SLE predominantly affects young, middle-aged, and child-bearing women with episodes of flare-up and remission, although it affects males at a much lower frequency (female: male; 7:1 to 15:1). Technological and molecular advancements have helped in patient stratification and improved patient prognosis, morbidity, and treatment regimens overall, impacting quality of life.

Cognitive impairment in a patient with rapidly progressive dementia (RPD) develops faster than expected for a known dementia syndrome. It poses as a diagnostic challenge for the physician who must identify the diagnosis among a broad spectrum of differentials. Here, we discuss the case of a 60-year-old male who presented with a four-month history of progressive gait disturbance, incoherent talking, dysarthria, hand tremors, and new-onset bladder incontinence.

Background And Aims: There is a bidirectional relationship between COVID-19 and diabetes. The primary objective of this study was to estimate the prevalence of patients newly detected to have diabetes (NDD) who recovered from COVID-19 in India whilst comparing NDD with patients without diabetes (ND) and those who have known to have diabetes (KD) in terms of glycemic status pre- and post-COVID with disease severity.

Materials & Methodology: There were 2212 participants enrolled from 15 sites, with 1630 active participants after the respective execution of selection criteria.

Background: The different anthropometric indices have different predictive values of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in various populations. Since obesity is a common cause of NAFLD and diabetes, therefore, it is critical to correlate the various anthropometric indices as a risk factor in terms of NAFLD and diabetes in the Indian population. In view of reported association between obesity and NAFLD, the study was employed to analyze the relationship of various anthropometric indices (body mass index [BMI], a body shape index [ABSI], waist-height ratio [WHtR], etc.

Background: Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a cardiovascular disease which is related to mortality and morbidity among the Indians predominantly in the older age group. But, recently CAD has been found more often in young population. Hence, our study aims to observe the outcomes based on various categories of high density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol levels estimated during admission at the hospital and correlate the levels of HDL cholesterol with severity of CAD as measured by Gensini score.

Introduction: Fast-track approval has led to serious concerns on the perception of COVID-19 vaccines' safety among the public. Common adverse drug reactions (ADRs) of COVID-19 vaccines are minor localized reactions, while systemic ADRs have been reported rarely. The serious ADRs include anaphylaxis, vaccine-induced immune thrombotic thrombocytopenia syndrome (VITTS), and reactions related to the pharmaceutical excipients present in the vaccine.

Article Synopsis
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is rapidly rising in India, currently affecting around 77 million people, and it's linked to an increased risk of cognitive issues, particularly mild cognitive impairment (MCI).
  • In a study of 1,278 T2DM patients, higher rates of MCI were found in older age groups, with independent factors for cognitive dysfunction identified as elevated HbA1c levels, longer duration of diabetes, older age, and being female.
  • Lipidomic analyses revealed significant differences in serum lipid profiles between T2DM patients with MCI and those with normal cognition, highlighting particular triglycerides and sphingolipids that may play a role in cognitive decline associated with

Adrenoleukodystrophy (ALD) is an X linked recessive genetic disorder caused by an abnormality in the gene on the X chromosome, that affects 1 in 20 000 people. In X linked adrenoleukodystrophy (X-ALD), a defect in lignoceroyl-coenzyme A ligase causes pathognomonic tissue accumulation of very long chain fatty acids (VLCFA) in the adrenal cortex and nervous system. The phenotypic variability ranges from cerebral inflammatory demyelination of childhood onset, leading to death within 5 years, to adults remaining presymptomatic through more than five decades.
