This study examined the relation between pandemic-related stressors and mental health among young people (YP) in India during two time points in the waning phase of the pandemic. We use data from two cross-sectional waves of over 20,000 YP aged 5-19 in February 2022, during the peak of the Omicron wave, and October 2022, during a reduction in infections and easing of restrictions. COVID illness/death in the family's social network, current lockdown stringency, and significant change in household income were examined in relation to adult respondents' reports of YP internalizing symptoms.

Custom made brachytherapy applicator for squamous cell carcinoma of oral commissures.

Primary treatment with brachytherapy for oral cancer is uncommon in large malignant lesions; however, it is preferred by radiation oncologists for initial and smaller-sized lesions in compromised anatomical locations. The purpose of this report is to introduce and discuss the fabrication of a customized brachytherapy applicator for a case of well differentiated squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the oral commissures using a radiotherapy thermoplastic mold (RTM). The RTM was molded into the shape of tongs and two acrylic wings were attached to these customized tongs to secure five high-dose radiotherapy catheter tubes.

Socioeconomic inequalities in adverse pregnancy outcomes in India: 2004-2019.

Although India has made substantial improvements in public health, it accounted for one-fifth of global maternal and neonatal deaths in 2015. Stillbirth, abortion, and miscarriage contribute to maternal and infant morbidity and mortality. There are known socioeconomic inequalities in adverse pregnancy outcomes.

District-level monitoring of universal health coverage, India.

Objective: To develop a framework and index for measuring universal health coverage (UHC) at the district level in India and to assess progress towards UHC in the districts.

Methods: We adapted the framework of the World Health Organization and World Bank to develop a district-level UHC index (UHC ). We used routinely collected health survey and programme data in India to calculate UHC for 687 districts from geometric means of 24 tracer indicators in five tracer domains: reproductive, maternal, newborn and child health; infectious diseases; noncommunicable diseases; service capacity and access; and financial risk protection.

Chemerin Levels in Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes and a Normal Weight versus Individuals with Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity: An Observational, Cross-Sectional Study.

Chemerin acts as both a chemotactic agent and an adipokine that undergoes proteolytic cleavage, converting inactive precursors into their active forms before being subsequently inactivated. Elevated chemerin levels are linked to obesity and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). This study aimed to elucidate the effects of T2D and obesity on chemerin levels by comparing plasma samples from individuals with a normal weight and T2D (BMI < 25; NWD group = 22) with those from individuals who are overweight or obese and have T2D (BMI ≥ 25; OWD group = 39).

What drives poor quality of care for child diarrhea? Experimental evidence from India.

Most health care providers in developing countries know that oral rehydration salts (ORS) are a lifesaving and inexpensive treatment for child diarrhea, yet few prescribe it. This know-do gap has puzzled experts for decades. Using randomized experiments in India, we estimated the extent to which ORS underprescription is driven by perceptions that patients do not want ORS, provider's financial incentives, and ORS stock-outs (out-of-stock events).

Advances in structural analysis and process monitoring of thermoplastic composite pipes.

Thermoplastic composite pipes (TCP) in comparison to other pipes have proven beneficial features due to its flexibility which includes being fit for purpose, lightweight and no corrosion. However, during the manufacturing of TCP which involves the consolidation process, certain defects may be induced in it because of certain parameters, and this can affect the performance of the pipe in the long run as the induced defects might lead to in-service defects. Current techniques used in the industry are facing challenges with on-the-spot detection in a continuous manufacturing system.

Tumor mutational burden and heterogeneity has been suggested to fuel resistance to many targeted therapies. The cytosine deaminase APOBEC proteins have been implicated in the mutational signatures of more than 70% of human cancers. However, the mechanism underlying how cancer cells hijack the APOBEC mediated mutagenesis machinery to promote tumor heterogeneity, and thereby foster therapy resistance remains unclear.

India's woes with an underprioritized and hence underfunded and understaffed public health system continue to plague public healthcare delivery. Here, we develop and validate real-time BH3 profiling, a live and functional single-cell measurement of pretreatment apoptotic sensitivity that occurs upstream of apoptotic protease activation.

An Exploratory Analysis of Gastrointestinal Morbidities and Feeding Outcomes Associated with Neonatal Hypoxic-Ischemic Encephalopathy With or Without Hypothermia Therapy.

This study investigates the clinical profile and predictors of gastrointestinal/hepatic morbidities and feeding outcomes among neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). A single-center retrospective chart review of consecutive neonates >35 weeks of gestation admitted with a diagnosis of HIE between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2020, and treated with therapeutic hypothermia, if met the institutional eligibility criteria. Outcomes assessed included necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), conjugated hyperbilirubinemia, hepatic dysfunction, assisted feeding at discharge, and time to reach full enteral and oral feeds.

Recreational nitrous oxide induced subacute combined degeneration of the spinal cord: A case report.

Nitrous oxide is a gas frequently used in the medical/dental field for anesthesia and analgesic purposes and in the food industry as a spray propellant or foaming agent. Overexposure can lead to subacute combined degeneration (SACD) of the spinal cord through the mechanism of vitamin B12 deficiency. Because this drug is easily accessible, relatively inexpensive, and legal to possess, it has potential to be abused for recreational purposes.

To date, little is known about cccDNA formation.

Effectiveness of a Community-Based Structured Physical Activity Program for Adults With Type 2 Diabetes: A Randomized Clinical Trial.

Importance: The efficacy of physical activity interventions among individuals with type 2 diabetes has been established; however, practical approaches to translate and extend these findings into community settings have not been well explored.

Objective: To test the effectiveness of providing varying frequencies of weekly structured exercise sessions to improve diabetes control.

Design, Setting, And Participants: The IMPACT (Initiate and Maintain Physical Activity in Communities Trial) study was a controlled randomized clinical trial (randomization occurred from October 2016 to April 2019) that included a 6-month, structured exercise intervention either once or thrice weekly vs usual care (UC; advice only).

The influence of various silyl protecting groups on 2-deoxyrhamnosylation using 2-deoxyrhamnosyl acetates, thioglycosides, and (-methoxyphenyl)vinylbenzoate (PMPVB) donors has been presented. -Glycosylation reactions reveal that -butyldimethylsilyl (TBDMS), triisopropylsilyl (TIPS), and -butyldiphenylsilyl (TBDPS) silyl protected rhamnosyl oxocarbenium ions have no facial selectivity except for the conformationally () locked tetraisopropyldisiloxane (TIPDS) protected rhamnose donor, which provides complete α-selectivity. However, TBDPS protected rhamnosyl donors are found to be superior protecting groups for α-stereoselective -glycosylation reactions with various acceptors.
