Expression of Protocadherin (Pcdh) genes is critical to the generation of neuron identity and wiring of the nervous system. Pcdhα genes are arranged in clusters and exhibit a range of expression profiles, from stochastic to deterministic. Because Pcdhα promoters have high sequence identity and share distal enhancers, how distinct neurons choose which gene to express remains unclear.

A positive healthy eating (PHE) intervention was developed to promote low-sugar dietary practices in families. The PHE intervention capitalized on positive psychological constructs to overcome barriers to health behavior change by helping families associate feelings of joy, gratitude, and savoring with healthy eating.

Treatment decisions are based on high-risk features such as advanced TNM stage and histology. The role of the tumour microenvironment, which can influence tumour progression and treatment response, has generated considerable interest.

The purpose of this study was to compare outcomes for hospitalized patients who received intravenous-only (IV-only) therapy versus oral step-down therapy with low, moderate, and highly bioavailable antimicrobials for the treatment of gram-negative bacteremia.
Methods: In this retrospective, single-center, observational study, we examined data from adult patients hospitalized with gram-negative bacteremia in a 1-year period.
Neural type-specific expression of clustered Protocadherin (Pcdh) proteins is essential for the establishment of connectivity patterns during brain development. In mammals, deterministic expression of the same Pcdh isoform promotes minimal overlap of tiled projections of serotonergic neuron axons throughout the brain, while stochastic expression of Pcdh genes allows for convergence of tightly packed, overlapping olfactory sensory neuron axons into targeted structures. How can the same gene locus generate opposite transcriptional programs that orchestrate distinct spatial arrangements of axonal patterns? Here, we reveal that cell type-specific Pcdh expression and axonal behavior depend on the activity of cohesin and its unloader, WAPL (wings apart-like protein homolog).

Positron emission tomography(PET) is used in detection of recurrence or metastasis, but its value in routine preoperative rectal cancer staging remains unclear. Studies report that preoperative PET altered the stage in 39% and changed the management in 17-27% of patients.

Measures with high psychometric IPS-specificity and less contamination from other cognitive domains are necessary to fully understand IPS changes.
Objective: Investigate how three mathematical modeling ex-Gaussian parameter estimates (mu, sigma, tau) derived from a simple response time (RT) task (1) differentiate MS from healthy control participants and (2) correspond to structural brain changes, to evaluate a novel IPS measurement approach.
The Australian Terrier breed is the breed at highest risk for naturally-occurring diabetes mellitus in the United States, where it is 32 times more likely to develop diabetes compared to mixed breed dogs. However, the heritability and mode of inheritance of spontaneous diabetes in Australian Terriers has not been reported. The aim of this study was therefore to investigate the heritability and mode of inheritance of diabetes in Australian Terriers.

A positive physical activity (PPA) intervention was developed to promote physical activity and fitness among Hong Kong families. PPA utilizes positive affective attitudes to circumvent barriers to health behavior change by helping families associate feelings of enjoyment with physical activity.

Design: This was a randomised, triple-blind, controlled, clinical non-inferiority trial comparing oat-RUTF to s-RUTF in rural Sierra Leone. Children aged 6-59 months with severe acute malnutrition (SAM) were randomised to oat-RUTF or s-RUTF.
Undernutrition is common in cystic fibrosis (CF) and is correlated with long-term outcomes, yet current nutritional interventions have not demonstrated consistent improvements in energy intake, and subsequently, growth. Development of novel nutritional interventions to increase energy intake is essential to improve clinical outcomes of individuals with CF. Ready-to-use supplemental food (RUSF) is a modifiable, inexpensive, palatable, safe, and nutrient-dense food for treatment or prevention of acute malnutrition in developing countries.

The development of a superior treatment option for severe acute malnutrition (SAM) which allowed for home-based therapy put in place constraints that are crucial for ensuring the feasibility and nutritional integrity of the treatment. Soon after the initial success of ready-to-use therapeutic food (RUTF), there were attempts to modify the formulation for cost and other areas of acceptability. While alternative formulations have been taken on in clinical trials, they have been inferior to the standard RUTF recipe.

Purpose: The study aimed to determine whether patients are receiving adequate counselling about elective bowel resection and timely surgery for inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).
Methods: Patients with IBD who underwent an elective bowel resection in a tertiary referral centre between April 2012 and Dec 2014 were identified from a prospective database. Patients under the age of 16 years were excluded from the study.
Introduction: Evaluation studies on train-the-trainer workshops (TTTs) to develop family well-being interventions are limited in the literature. The Logic Model offers a framework to place some important concepts and tools of intervention science in the hands of frontline service providers. This paper reports on the evaluation of a TTT for a large community-based program to enhance family well-being in Hong Kong.

With its increasing availability and use, it is not uncommon to detect incidental focal colorectal F-FDG uptake which poses a diagnostic challenge, as they may be associated with malignant or pre-malignant colorectal lesions. The aim of our study is to determine the proportion of these findings which represents true pathology.

The Happy Family Kitchen project, which emphasized cooking and dining with family members, was conducted in a deprived district in Hong Kong. We hypothesized that the community-based family intervention, derived from a positive psychology framework, can improve family communication, family well-being, and subjective happiness.
