Characteristics, clinical profiles, and outcomes of patients undergoing endovascular thrombectomy: A retrospective study, Saudi Arabia.

Background: Stroke is a significant contributor to both mortality and compromised physical function. Endovascular thrombectomy (EVT) is now the recognized standard of care for anterior circulation acute ischemic stroke (AIS) with large vessel occlusion (LVO), especially when favorable brain images are evident within 24 h of symptom onset. This study elucidated the characteristics, clinical profiles, and outcomes of patients who underwent EVT for AIS.

Diagnostic accuracy of large and medium vessel occlusions in acute stroke imaging by neurology residents and stroke fellows: A comparison of CT angiography alone and CT angiography with CT perfusion.

Introduction: Neurology senior residents and stroke fellows are first to clinically assess and interpret imaging studies of patients presenting to the emergency department with acute stroke. The aim of this study was to compare the diagnostic accuracy of brain CT angiography (CTA) with and without CT perfusion (CTP) between neurology senior residents and stroke fellows.

Methods: In this neuroimaging study, nine practitioners (four senior neurology residents (SNRs) and five stroke fellows (SFs)) clinically assessed and interpreted the imaging data of 50 cases (15 normal images, 21 large vessel occlusions (LVOs) and 14 medium vessel occlusions (MeVOs) in two sessions, 1 week apart in comparison to final diagnosis of experienced neuroradiologist and experienced stroke neurologist consensus.

Incidence and risk factors of contrast-induced nephropathy in acute stroke patients undergoing computed tomography angiography: A single-center study.

Hand Knob Syndrome Secondary to Ipsilateral Concomitant Carotid Fibromuscular Dysplasia and Proximal Atherosclerotic Disease.

One of the uncommon stroke presentations is the isolated wrist drop syndrome, caused by a stroke affecting the hand knob area, with the embolic mechanism being the most commonly identified mechanism. Here, we present the case of a 62-year-old female patient who presented with acute-onset isolated wrist drop secondary to right internal carotid artery fibromuscular dysplasia with a string of beads appearance and coexisting proximal atherosclerotic severe stenosis. The patient underwent successful carotid artery stenting.

Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder: A Rare Case of Transverse Myelitis and Autonomic Dysfunction.

Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a demyelinating central nervous system disease commonly presenting with optic neuritis and transverse myelitis. Its pathology is mediated by serum aquaporin 4 immunoglobulin G (AQP4-IgG) and myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG) antibodies. It can present in a relapsing and monophasic pattern and is diagnosed using the diagnostic criteria published in 2015 by the international panel on neuromyelitis optica (NMO) diagnosis.

Reversible CT Scan Hypodensity in Acute Ischemic Stroke Patient With Low Initial Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) Following Endovascular Thrombectomy: A Case Report.

According to current American and European guidelines, mechanical thrombectomy is recommended only for patients with an Alberta Stroke Program Early CT Score (ASPECTS) of 6 or higher. However, recent literature suggests that the potential benefits of reperfusion therapy should not be solely determined by baseline ASPECTS. In this case report, we present a young female patient with a low initial ASPECTS (4-5), who underwent mechanical thrombectomy and showed marked improvement in both CT imaging and clinical symptoms.

Quality of life assessment among multiple sclerosis patients in Saudi Arabia.

Objective: To determine the quality of life (QoL) among multiple sclerosis (MS) patients in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
