Microalgal-bacterial consortium process (MBCP) proposed as an alternative to the activated sludge process contains free nitrous acid (FNA). FNA antimicrobial influences on nitrifiers have been demonstrated. However, its influence on microalgae is largely unknown, limiting the system stability of MBCP.
