Accurate gait detection is crucial in utilizing the ample health information embedded in it. Vision-based approaches for gait detection have emerged as an alternative to the exacting sensor-based approaches, but their application has been rather limited due to complicated feature engineering processes and heavy reliance on lateral views. Thus, this study aimed to find a simple vision-based approach that is view-independent and accurate.

Objective: To determine the diagnostic accuracy of plain computed tomography using the ratio between hounsfield unit and haematocrit of cerebral venous sinuses in cases of acute cerebral venous sinus thrombosis taking magnetic resonance venography as the gold standard.

Methods: The cross-sectional validation study was conducted at the Department of Diagnostic Radiology, Combined Military Hospital, Rawalpindi, Pakistan, from March 9 to September 8, 2021, and comprised patients regardless of age and gender presenting with acute neurological and visual signs and symptoms of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis for <5 days. The patients were brain-imaged on 128-slice computed tomography scanner, and the image was assessed and the attenuation values in terms of Hounsfield unit of dural venous sinuses were calculated by taking appropriate region of interest.

Elderly gait is a source of rich information about their physical and mental health condition. As an alternative to the multiple sensors on the lower body parts, a single sensor on the pelvis has a positional advantage and an abundance of information acquirable. This study aimed to improve the accuracy of gait event detection in the elderly using a single sensor on the waist and deep learning models.

Article Synopsis
  • Vision-based human joint angle estimation is crucial for ongoing health monitoring and typically relies on methods like optical motion cameras or pose estimation models.
  • The study introduced a deep learning approach for estimating knee and elbow angles using only RGB video from participants performing daily activities, with nine frames of video as input.
  • The BiLSTM network achieved high accuracy in estimating the angles, demonstrating a correlation of 0.955 for the knee and 0.917 for the elbow, irrespective of camera angles.

The incredible pace at which the world's elderly population is growing will put severe burdens on current healthcare systems and resources. To alleviate this concern the health care systems must rely on the transformation of eldercare and old homes to use Ambient Assisted Living (AAL). Human identification is one of the most common and critical tasks for condition monitoring, human-machine interaction, and providing assistive services in such environments.

Human gait can serve as a useful behavioral trait for biometrics. Compared to fingerprint, face, and iris, the most commonly used physiological identifiers, gait can be unobtrusively monitored from a distance without requiring explicit involvement and physical restraint from people. Advances in wearable technology facilitate direct and faithful measurement of gait motions with easy-to-use and low-cost inertial sensors.

Background: The global spread of COVID-19 makes Pakistan as vulnerable as any other developing country and the risk posed by the weak health system increases the fears in people's minds. The government is strategically expanding the scope of community ownership and increasing understanding in the population through risk communication and engagement; still, the situation remains very austere and is even affecting the psychological health of caregivers. We, therefore, sought to determine the impact of psychosocial job demands and resources associated with the psychological health of nurses in a time lag duration of 3 months, i.

Background And Objectives: Extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL)-producing pathogens remain a public health concern, with limited data on the molecular characterization of isolates. We aimed to determine the molecular characterization of ESBL-producers circulating in our setting and correlate the molecular types with the minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) to third-generation cephalosporins.

Design And Settings: Retrospective study conducted during the period from January to June 2013 at King Khalid University hospital, a tertiary-care hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
