Objectives: This study is aimed to synthesis and evaluate PEGylated Eu enabled spherical alumina submicron particles (s-AlO:Eu) for potential theranostic applications.

Methods: This study is bisected into two parts, a) synthesis of PEGylated Eu enabled spherical alumina submicron particles (s-AlO:Eu), and b) characterization of the synthesized particles to determine their efficacy for potential theranostic applications. The synthesis of the particles involved the following steps.

Introduction: In December 2019, the city of Wuhan, located in the Hubei province of China became the epicentre of an outbreak of a pandemic called COVID-19 by the World Health Organisation. The detection of this virus by rRTPCR (Real-Time Reverse Transcription-Polymerase Chain Reaction) tests reported high false negative rate. The manifestations of CXR (Chest X-Ray) images contained salient features of the virus.

Superglue monomers belong to a family of cyanoacrylates that are known for their very rapid polymerization upon contact with moist surfaces. Their biodegradation and low toxicity make them attractive as medical and veterinary adhesives. Although the fast-acting polymerization characteristics have been successfully utilized to design nanoscale polymeric particles that can carry drugs or other inorganic nanoparticles, it constitutes a significant drawback if one desires to produce other forms of functional biodegradable acrylics, such as coatings, sheets, or nanocomposites.
