Article Synopsis
  • Neonatal encephalopathy (NE) is a serious brain condition in newborns that affects how their bodies work, especially their brain and blood sugar levels.
  • Low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) can make NE worse and are linked to serious problems like death and disabilities.
  • Doctors use cooling treatment (therapeutic hypothermia) to help protect the brain, and new methods like checking blood sugar levels often and using glucagon (a medication) can help manage blood sugar and improve health for these babies.

Article Synopsis
  • - Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) causes joint inflammation and pain, mainly affecting the metacarpophalangeal and proximal interphalangeal joints, with treatment typically combining biological medications and steroids.
  • - An experimental study used gingerol-loaded nanoparticles to improve RA treatment in rats, assessing the effects through various inflammatory markers and gene expression after 21 days of oral administration.
  • - Results showed significant changes in inflammatory gene levels between the treated and control groups, indicating that the gingerol nanoparticles had enhanced therapeutic effects for RA.

Introduction/background: Reduced-intensity conditioning (RIC) and nonmyeloablative (NMA) regimens have enabled patients with cardiovascular disease (CVD) to undergo allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-HSCT). However, little is known about long-term outcomes, including cardiovascular (CV) complications.

Methods: We retrospectively studied 99 consecutive patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS) who underwent allo-HSCT between September 1, 2013, and November 30, 2020.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed 291 adult patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to determine the impact of pre-existing cardiovascular disease (CVD) on their clinical outcomes from 2014 to 2020.* -
  • 34% of AML patients had CVD at diagnosis, leading to worse overall performance and lower rates of achieving complete remission or complete remission with incomplete count recovery.* -
  • CVD independently correlated with shorter overall survival rates in AML patients, with significant differences observed at 1 and 3 years, but did not affect the likelihood of disease relapse.*

Glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists are used in diabetes management and can have a potential application in cancer therapy. While their involvement in cancer treatment is still being studied, recent research suggests they may have benefits in cancer therapy. A comprehensive literature search was conducted using search engines like Google Scholar, Scopus, and PubMed to explore the effects of GLP-1 receptor agonists in tumor suppression and regression.

Present study evaluated the effect of lighted incubation on pre- and post-hatch performance of Japanese quail. In a completely randomized design, 1200 eggs were evenly divided into 4 treatments groups having six replicates (each tray was considered as replicate), 50 eggs each. Different dichromatic lights (Green + Red; GR, Green + Blue; GB, and Blue + Red; BR) of 250 lux were provided during incubation for 12 h daily and effects of these lights very evaluated on hatching results and post-hatch growth.

Article Synopsis
  • Drugs targeting the calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) pathway represent a new approach for treating migraine, with Zavegepant being the first intranasal CGRP antagonist developed.
  • A systematic review of six studies evaluated Zavegepant's safety, efficacy, pharmacokinetics, and tolerability, focusing primarily on two randomized control trials with consistent results.
  • Findings suggest that Zavegepant is an effective and well-tolerated treatment option for episodic migraines, demonstrating positive outcomes across various parameters, including adverse events and pain relief.

Erythema ab igne, also known as toasted skin syndrome, is an acquired asymmetric hyperpigmented dermatosis that is caused by repeated exposure to moderate heat or infrared radiation. Hyperpigmentation is caused by the degeneration of elastic fibers and basal cells resulting in the release of melanin. Historically found in bakers and industrial workers, this condition has recently resurfaced in medical literature with the use of novel heat sources such as laptops and heated car seats.

Thrombocytopenia is a common clinical condition, and drug-induced immune thrombocytopenia (DITP) should be considered in hospitalized patients with severe thrombocytopenia who are exposed to new medications. The potential mechanism is described to be drug-triggered antibody-mediated platelet destruction causing petechiae and mucosal bleeding. Severe form of DITP can be refractory to systemic steroids and even intravenous immunoglobulin administration.
