Background: Kenaf seeds are a rich source of protein; however, finding the best extraction method is crucial to obtaining high-quality protein from these underutilized seeds. This research devised an optimized extraction process for best recovery of kenaf seeds protein using response surface methodology. The key parameters affecting the yield and protein content were optimized, including extraction pH (2-11), seed:water ratio (5:1-50:1), temperature (30-90 °C), and duration (20-360 min).

There are many reasons that people, when warned of an impending extreme event, do not take proactive, self-defensive action. We focus on one possible reason, which is that, sometimes, people lack a sense of agency or even experience disempowerment, which can lead to passivity. This article takes up one situation where the possibility of disempowerment is salient, that of Rohingya refugees who were evicted from their homes in Myanmar and forced to cross the border into neighboring Bangladesh.

Thymic stromal lymphopoietin (TSLP) is a novel cytokine that triggers dendritic cell-mediated T helper (Th)-2 inflammatory responses. Noncovalently linked electron donor-acceptor complexes consisting of either zinc tetraphenylporphyrin, (TPP)Zn, or zinc octaethylporphycene, (OEPc)Zn, as donor and pyridine appended C(60), py approximately C(60), as acceptor, via axial coordination of zinc, are reported. The UV-visible and (1)H NMR spectral studies reveal 1:1 complex formation between the donor and acceptor entities. The determined K values follow the oxidation potential of the employed zinc tetrapyrroles, and the calculated thermodynamic parameters reveal stable complexation.
