Survival case of cardiac strangulation from epicardial pacemaker leads in an adult: A case report.

Cardiac strangulation from leads of an epicardial pacemaker is a rarely reported life-threatening complication. We report the case of a 72-year-old female with history of supraventricular tachycardia status post sino-atrial node ablation with epicardial pacemaker placement who presented to the outpatient setting with shortness of breath. Heart catheterization was performed which showed elevated right and left heart pressures.

Optical coherence tomography catheter-induced vasospasm of the left anterior descending artery: A case report.

Optical coherence tomography (OCT) helps identify coronary artery disease of different etiologies. Vasospasm from OCT catheter is a rarely reported complication that is more commonly seen in the right coronary artery. We report a case of OCT-catheter induced vasospasm of the left anterior descending artery that resolved with administration of nitroglycerine.

Prevalence of Aortic Root Pathologies in Platypnea-Orthodeoxia Syndrome Secondary to Intra-Cardiac Shunts.

Background: Atrial septal defects can allow right to left shunting of venous blood which presents clinically as platypnea-orthodeoxia syndrome. It is believed that concomitant presence of aortic root pathologies increases the likelihood of shunting.

Methods: The study included a review of 510 articles listed in PubMed of patients with platypnea-orthodeoxia syndrome.

Incidental detection of an intracardiac cement embolism complicating percutaneous vertebroplasty during cardiac catheterization: A case report.

Unlabelled: Percutaneous vertebroplasty has emerged as an increasingly popular intervention for managing a variety of common spinal conditions. Nevertheless, kyphoplasty cement can accidentally leak into paravertebral venous plexus, then travel to the right heart chambers through the venous system. We report an exceedingly rare case of an intracardiac cement embolism, likely an inadvertent complication of a recent percutaneous lumbar vertebroplasty.

We present here a case of a young female with SCAD who initially presented with chest pain and syncope, with progression to cardiac arrest.

Electrocardiographic (ECG) findings in patients admitted with COVID-19 and a decision tree to predict their survival were assessed. 145 consecutive patients with severe COVID-19 infection were selected. Patient demographics, ECG variables, peak troponins, use of standard medications, and clinical outcomes were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, and a predictive model of survival was developed using classification tree analysis.

Pakistan suffered large-scale flooding in summer 2010 that caused damage amounting to approximately USD 43 billion, claimed the lives of at least 1,700 people, and negatively affected some 20 million others. Observers have debated the degree to which social capital plays a role in recovery after a catastrophe of this magnitude. Using new survey data on 450 residents impacted by the disaster, this study found that, controlling for various confounding factors, the social capital levels of victims serve as robust correlates of life recovery.
