A giant sacrococcygeal teratoma in adult female: A case report.

Introduction: Sacrococcygealteratoma is very rare in adults with only few cases reported in literature. It is a slow growing benign cystic tumor with 1-2% chance for malignant transformation and may attain a huge size causing pressure effect on pelvic and intra-abdominal organs. When grows caudally, it causes discomfort, skin excoriation and cosmetic disfigurement.

Redefined clinical spectra of diabetic foot syndrome.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to present the redefined clinical spectra of diabetic foot syndrome (RCS-DFS) and determine whether the RCS-DFS can be used to predict amputations.

Patients And Methods: This is a retrospective study of type 2 diabetic patients referred with DFS for management at King Abdullah University Hospital (KAUH) between January 2014 and December 2015. Data collection form and diabetic foot (DF) characteristic chart were used to document the following: demographic data, diabetes-related parameters, DF characteristics, surgical interventions and amputations.

Acute appendicitis in the elderly: risk factors for perforation.

Background: Acute appendicitis is the most common surgical emergency and becomes serious when it perforates. Perforation is more frequent in the elderly patients. The aim of this study was to identify the risk factors of perforation in elderly patients who presented with acute appendicitis.

Changing pattern of intestinal obstruction in northern Jordan.

Background: Obstructed abdominal wall hernias have been reported to be the leading cause of mechanical intestinal obstruction (MIO) among adults in developing countries. In the developed countries, postoperative adhesions are the commonest cause. With the worldwide improvements in health services and education, especially in developing countries, we aimed to determine the effects of these improvements on the patterns and outcomes of management of MIO in Jordan

Methods: The records of all patients who were treated for MIO between the years 2005 and 2010 were reviewed retrospectively.

Parasitic leiomyoma. A rare cause of inguinal mass in females.

Leiomyoma of the uterus is a common tumor during the reproductive age of females. It is classified as intrauterine and extrauterine. Extrauterine leiomyomas may occur without a concurrent uterine pathology.

Skin cancer trends in northern Jordan.

Background: The Jordan Cancer Registry was established in 1996, since which time all cases of cancer have been reported and registered. We have used this registry to perform the first analysis of skin cancer in northern Jordan and to compare our findings with those of published reports from other regions.

Methods: All histopathologically proven cases of skin cancer, reported during the years 1997 through 2001, were reviewed.

Do road traffic accidents increase during the fasting month of Ramadan.

Objective: During Ramadan, adult Muslims stop eating and drinking during the daytime. Fasting may cause physiological habitual and behavioral changes that may cause an increase in the rate of road traffic accidents (RTA) during Ramadan. The aim of this study was to see whether there is a real increase in the rate and severity of patients treated secondary to RTA during Ramadan.

Prevalence of ischemia in diabetic foot infection.

Foot infection is a common problem affecting diabetics. In addition to neuropathy, ischemia is a major factor contributing to the progress and morbidity of the disease. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence of lower limb ischemia in patients with diabetic foot infection prospectively measuring the ankle-brachial pressure index (ABI).

Abdominal wall endometriosis. An overlooked diagnosis.

Objective: To study the incidence of abdominal wall endometriosis after cesarean section and its presentation to the general surgeon.

Methods: Fourteen patients were treated for abdominal wall endometriosis during the period June 1997 to May 2002 at Princess Basma Teaching Hospital and King Abdulla University Hospital, Irbid, Jordan. The patient's files were reviewed to see their way and time of presentation after cesarean section, provisional diagnosis made and operative procedures performed.
