Background Beta-thalassemia major is a genetic blood disease complicated by splenomegaly, and splenectomy is a standard therapy for this medical condition. Although splenectomy results not only in the improvement of the hematological status, the long-term consequences to the cardiovascular system are still questionable. Objective The aim of the study was to assess and compare the cardiovascular impact of splenomegaly and splenectomy in patients with beta-thalassemia major.

Background: This study compares Selective Amygdalohippocampectomy (SAHE) and Anterior Temporal Lobectomy (ATL) for temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE), focusing on seizure control and visual field deficits (VFD). While previous research suggests potential benefits of SAHE, this meta-analysis aims to clarify the comparative effectiveness of bothprocedures.

Methods: This study adhered to PRISMA guidelines, comparing seizure outcomes and VFDs between SAHE and ATL for temporal lobe epilepsy.

Background And Objective: Tricuspid valve replacement (TVR) is required when repair is not feasible, and it continues to be a relatively high-risk procedure owing to the complex medical and/or surgical profile of patients. The choice between mechanical and biological prostheses for TVR remains a subject of debate owing to their distinct advantages and disadvantages. This study aimed to analyse and compare the clinical outcomes of these two types of prostheses in the tricuspid position.

The detection of trace quantities of 2,6-dipicolinic acid (DPA) in real-world samples is crucial for early disease diagnosis and routine health monitoring. Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs), recognized for their diverse structural architectures, have emerged as advanced multifunctional hybrid materials. One of the most notable properties of MOFs is their luminescence (L), which can arise from structural ligands, guest molecules, and emissive metal ions.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) are multipotent cells with high self-renewal and multilineage differentiation abilities, playing an important role in tissue healing. Recent advancements in stem cell-based technologies have offered new and promising therapeutic options in regenerative medicine. Upon tissue damage, MSCs are immediately mobilized from the bone marrow and move to the injury site via blood circulation.

Article Synopsis
  • Malignant neoplasms of bone and articular cartilage, though rare, significantly impact health with rising mortality rates, requiring focused interventions to enhance patient outcomes.
  • A retrospective study analyzed CDC WONDER data on mortality rates among adults aged 65 and older from 1999 to 2020, revealing an initial decline in age-adjusted mortality rates until 2012, followed by a sharp increase.
  • The study found higher mortality rates among men and NH Black individuals, particularly in Southern states and nonmetropolitan areas, indicating a pressing need for targeted public health strategies to address these disparities.

Glioblastoma (GB), the most common malignant brain tumour, has a poor prognosis despite advances in treatment. Standard management involves surgery followed by chemoradiotherapy. MRI-guided laser interstitial thermal therapy (LITT) is a minimally invasive technique that may offer an option for select patients with specific clinical profiles.

Our study utilized an experimentally synthesized dye as a reference molecule, employing a donor-π linker-acceptor (D-π-A) framework for organic solar cells. The molecule featured a triazatruxene group linked with alkyl branches as the donor and ethynyl benzoic acid as the acceptor, connected through a derivative of benzothiadiazole as the π linker. To improve optoelectronic and photovoltaic properties, ten theoretically designed dyes (ZA1-ZA10) are proposed, differing from the reference (R) by modifying the terminal acceptor moiety.

Article Synopsis
  • Congenital bilateral absence of vas deferens (CBAVD) is a condition linked to male infertility and involves defects in the development of reproductive structures.
  • This study investigated mutations in exon 10 of the CFTR gene, finding four mutations in six out of seventeen CBAVD patients in Pakistan, with two significant missense variants (V456A and K464E).
  • The research suggests that these mutations may negatively impact gene function, highlighting their importance in the development of genetic tests and treatments for male infertility associated with CBAVD.

Background: Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a common liver condition affecting 25%-40% of the worldwide population. NAFLD is traditionally related to obesity and metabolic disorders. NAFLD can also affect non-obese individuals, termed "lean NAFLD" (LN), who exhibit a paradoxical combination of physical leanness and metabolic obesity.

This study explores the capability of thiazoles as potent inhibitors of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro. Seventeen thiazoles (1-17) were screened for their linking affinity with the active site of SARS-CoV-2 Mpro and compared with the FDA-recommended antiviral drugs, Remdesivir and Baricitinib. Density Functional Theory (DFT) calculations provided electronic and energetic properties of these ligands, shedding light on their stability and reactivity.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a foremost cause of amputation in diabetic patients. Consequences of DFU include infections, decline in limb function, hospitalization, amputation, and in severe cases, death. Immune cells including macrophages, regulatory T cells, fibroblasts and other damage repair cells work in sync for effective healing and in establishment of a healthy skin barrier post-injury.
