Correlation of Prolonged Corrected QT Interval With Ventricular Arrhythmias and In-Hospital Mortality Among ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction Patients: A Mystique or Lucidity?

Background Ventricular arrhythmias (VAs) are a frequent cause of cardiovascular mortality, especially in developing countries. Prolongation of corrected QT (QTc) interval predisposes patients to life-threatening VAs. Our study aims to assess the correlation of prolonged QTc interval with VAs and in-hospital mortality among ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients.

Study of the Effect of Different Hepatitis C Virus Genotypes on Splenomegaly.

Background Several recent studies have shown that the hepatitis C virus (HCV) and its different genotypes are a predominant and leading cause of cirrhosis and splenomegaly in different regions of the world. Advanced stage of cirrhosis leads to portal hypertension that causes splenomegaly. This complication may have many other manifestations such as anemia, infections, and bleeding disorders in severe stages.

MR Product as a Novel Diagnostic Indicator for Chronic Secondary Mitral Regurgitation.

Background Chronic secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR) is a common form of valvular heart disease. Its diagnosis through echocardiography is challenging and dependent on subjective interpretations. The subjective error to diagnose SMR can be reduced by developing accurate predictive quantitative parameters that support echocardiographic interpretations and clinical manifestations.

Association of Physical Activity and Sleep Quality with Academic Performance Among Fourth-year MBBS Students of Rawalpindi Medical University.

Background Medical students face greater academic stress and devote more time to their studies due to the tough nature of medical education, at the cost of sleep and physical activity. Good sleep quality and physical activity improve the mental ability and academic performance of the students. Objectives and rationale The study aims to assess sleep quality and physical activity levels among fourth-year MBBS students of Rawalpindi Medical University.

Incidence and management of cleft lip and palate in Pakistan.

Objective: To compare the occurrence, distribution and management of clefts of lip and palate in local patients with the available data from India and China.

Methods: The retrospective study was conducted at the Interdisciplinary Research Centre in Biomedical Materials, COMSATS University Islamabad, Lahore Campus, Lahore, Pakistan, and comprised data related to a three-month period from January to March 2015 at two medical centres in Lahore. Data from Pakistani centres was analysed based on province, gender, age and clefts of lip and palate conditions and Spearman's correlation matrix.

Extradural Hemorrhage: A rare Complication and Manifestation of Stroke in Sickle Cell Disease.

We present a case of extradural hemorrhage, a rare and unusual complication associated with Sickle Cell Disease, from Nizwa, Oman. A 12-year old male child with Sickle cell disease (SD) was admitted to hospital with backache and pain in both lower Limbs. Clinical examination revealed an average built child with mild pallor, mild tenderness in the lower back and both legs.
