Breast Cancer Management Consensus By The Society of Surgeons and Surgical Oncology Society of Pakistan.

The Society of Surgeons of Pakistan and The Society of Surgical Oncology of Pakistan with factions from various major centres comprising of surgical oncology, medical and radiation oncology collaborated to reach consensus on breast cancer management guidelines and a framework of "good practice" minimum standards of care. The aim of the task force was to enhance treatment standards, which have a direct correlation with improving patient mortality and morbidity and long-term survival whilst taking into consideration economic limitations of access to leading centers of excellence as well as minimum expertise required in health care. These multidisciplinary guidelines, whilst not exhaustive, aim to provide an algorithm of care for breast cancer patients at tertiary care centres and district level hospitals to provide most appropriate treatment.

Preventable morbidities of a successful intervention, Textiloma/Gossypiboma: A case series.

Preventable morbidities are serious conditions that have the potential to cause serious harm or death of the patient. One of the preventable morbidities is Gossypiboma or involuntary leaving of surgical sponge inside the body. The implication for the patient and the surgeon is grave.

The Emergence of Multiple Antibiotic Resistance in Culture Sensitivities of Post-surgical Patients in Lahore General Hospital, Lahore.

Objective The purpose of this study is to isolate the organisms which are developing resistance and to recognize the drugs against which resistance has emerged so that antibiotic policy can be formulated for the proper and effective use of antibiotics. Setting and design An observational study was conducted for a period of six months from July 1, 2021 and December 31, 2021 in LGH. Methods Statistics regarding the culture and sensitivity of the organisms isolated from different sources were collected from the surgery department.

Clinical Practice Guidelines For The Management Of Colorectal Cancer, A Consensus Statement By The Society Of Surgeons® And Surgical Oncology Society Of Pakistan®.

A joint effort by the Society of Surgeons Pakistan and Society of Surgical Oncology Pakistan, these guidelines provide a framework for the practicing surgeons involved in care and management of patients with colorectal cancer. The guidelines take into account the issues related to our local circumstances and provide a minimum standard of care that must be given to these patients. The Guideline Committee had members from all disciplines, including surgery, surgical oncology, medical oncology and radiation oncology.

An atypical presentation of small bowel adenocarcinoma; a case report.

Small bowel malignancy (SBM) is a rare malignancy in the gastrointestinal tract. Duodenum is the most commonly involved segment and the most common histological subtype is adenocarcinoma (40%). Due to a lack of screening tools and vague symptoms, its clinical detection is very challenging.

Neuroendocrine tumour of the ampulla of Vater: A rare neoplasm at an atypical site.

The periampullary neuroendocrine tumour is an infrequently occurring tumour. Its prevalence among gastrointestinal neuroendocrine neoplasms is less than 0.3%, and less than 2% out of periampullary tumours.

Fodder cutter (Tokka) injuries: A preventable morbidity.

Pakistan is an agricultural country where fodder cutter (Tokka) is a commonly used machine on the farms. While using it, farmers often meet with accidents causing injuries which are disastrous, and mainly involve the young generation often causing lifelong disability. This is a hospital-based case series, conducted from June 2018 to January 2019 in the Department of Surgery, Lahore General Hospital, Lahore.

Outcome of purse-string versus linear skin closure after ileostomy stoma reversal in terms of stoma sites infection and cosmesis.

Objective: To evaluate the incidence of infection and patient satisfaction in terms of cosmesis between purse-string closure and the usual linear closure of stoma wound.

Methods: The experimental randomised clinical trial was conducted from December 2017 to December 2018 at the Surgical Unit 1, Lahore General Hospital, Lahore, Pakistan, and comprised patients undergoing ileostomy stoma reversal. The patients were randomised into 2 groups using computer-generated random numbers.

Giant lipoma of submandibular region; an unusual presentation.

Lipomas in the submandibular region are very uncommon. Large submandibular neck mass (greater than 10 cm) with a rapid growth rate, may raise concern about possible malignancy of salivary glands. Failure to distinguish salivary gland tumour and liposarcoma from a lipoma may represent a medico-legal pitfall.

Antimicrobial Resistance Patterns: Review of the Antibiogram of a Surgical Unit in a Public Tertiary Care Hospital of Pakistan.

Introduction Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) has become a challenge in modern-day medical practice. The pace at which microbes are becoming resistant to antibiotics is greater than the discovery of novel antimicrobial agents. There is a need to study these antimicrobial patterns and, for this purpose, antibiograms should be developed at the levels of wards and hospitals and studied to guide us better on how to choose suitable empirical therapy for our patients.

An interesting and rare case of traumatic oesophagocutaneous fistula.

Oesophagocutaneous fistula is a very rare disorder. No case of oesophagocutaneous fistula after blunt trauma has been reported. In this report we present a case of 25-year-old nursing student seen at the Lahore General Hospital, Lahore, with a history of blunt trauma to the neck.

Lack of awareness among surgeons regarding safe use of electrosurgery. A cross sectional survey of surgeons in Pakistan.

Objective: To assess our surgeons perceptive regarding the safe usage of electrosurgical devices.

Method: ology: This cross sectional survey was carried out at two hospitals, A cancer hospital and a public sector general hospital. Consultants, fellows and senior residents (Resident year 3rd and year 4th) on the surgical floor were requested to fill up the questionnaire.

Use of box simulators for improving intraoperative laparoscopic skills - an essential tool for the surgeon in training.

Objective: To compare the improvement of intraoperative laparoscopic skills by measuring GOALS score between residents who have undergone simulator training with those who have not received any simulator training.

Study Design: A randomized controlled trial.
