Preserving cognitive vitality: Value of cognitive rehabilitation in addressing cognitive deficits in the elderly.

The recent advancements in medical sciences has resulted in not only increasing life expectancy of the elderly but has also improved survival rate in elderly with neurological disorders including those with head trauma . This has resulted in an increasing number of persons with cognitive deficits. Cognitive functions such as executive functioning and memory play an important role in success of a rehabilitation programme and therefore can positively contribute to public health goals.

Non-Invasive Prenatal Testing (NIPT): Reliability, Challenges, and Future Directions.

Non-invasive prenatal testing was first discovered in 1988; it was primarily thought to be able to detect common aneuploidies, such as Patau syndrome (T13), Edward Syndrome (T18), and Down syndrome (T21). It comprises a simple technique involving the analysis of cell-free foetal DNA (cffDNA) obtained through maternal serum, using advances in next-generation sequencing. NIPT has shown promise as a simple and low-risk screening test, leading various governments and private organizations worldwide to dedicate significant resources towards its integration into national healthcare initiatives as well as the formation of consortia and research studies aimed at standardizing its implementation.

An overview of injury prevention for soccer players in Pakistan: A sports rehab perspective.

Soccer (football) is one of the most popular weight-bearing sports in the world, which involves activities such as jumping, running and turning. Soccer related injuries have the highest incidence in all sports and are more common in young amateur players. The most important modifiable risk factors include neuromuscular control, postural stability, hamstring strength and core dysfunction.

Ionic Liquid Agar-Alginate Beads as a Sustainable Phenol Adsorbent.

Cleaning wastewater containing low concentrations of phenolic compounds is a challenging task. In this work, agar-alginate beads impregnated with trihexyltetradecylphosphonium bromide ([P][Br]) ionic liquid adsorbent were synthesized as a potential adsorbent for such applications. FTIR, TGA, SEM, EDX and PZC studies were performed to characterize and understand the physicochemical properties of the adsorbent.

Perceptions regarding team-based learning among undergraduate physical therapy students.

Team-based learning (TBL) is a strategy where teams work together to develop concepts and apply them towards problem-solving. This latest learning approach has not been tried in the educational environment of Rehabilitation Sciences. Hence, this study aimed to assess the knowledge and practices regarding TBL among undergraduate physical therapy students.

Huge Retroperitoneal Cyst Masquerading as Ovarian Tumour: A Case Report.

Retroperitoneal cystic mass is a rare surgical condition that is often misdiagnosed preoperatively. Here, we report a case of a 56-year-old woman who presented with abdominal swelling for a 1-year duration, which was associated with lower abdominal pain for 6 months. Her abdominal radiograph showed a huge radiopaque lesion, and contrast-enhanced computed tomography scan of the abdomen reported it as a left ovarian serous cystadenoma causing local mass effect to the left ureter leading to mild left hydronephrosis.

Jejunal interposition for short bowel syndrome in a septuagenarian.

Short bowel syndrome in adults occurs as a result of massive small intestinal resection commonly due to severe Crohn's disease, volvulus or tumors. Diarrhea and weight loss are hallmarks of malabsorption which are aggravated if the colon is removed along with the small intestinal resection. Enteral nutrition autonomy is difficult to achieve in such cases of malabsorption where parenteral nutrition are required more often than not.

HDAC6 alleviates prion peptide-mediated neuronal death via modulating PI3K-Akt-mTOR pathway.

Histone deacetylase 6 (HDAC6) controls several major cellular responses to stress that play a role in neurodegenerative diseases, including aggresome formation, autophagy, and apoptosis. However, the specific role of HDAC6 in prion diseases is not known. In this study, we examined the relationship between HDAC6 and cellular response to the neurotoxic synthetic prion protein fragment PrP106-126.

Effects of shear and surface roughness on reducing the attachment of Oscillatoria sp. filaments on substrates.

The effects of surface roughness and shear on the attachment of Oscillatoria sp. algal filaments onto SS314 stainless steel coupons were investigated. Average surface roughness was used to systematically characterize the surface condition.

Symptomatic pancreatic sarcoidosis. Case report and review of literature.

Context: Symptomatic pancreatic involvement in sarcoidosis is extremely rare. There are 25 reported cases of detected pancreatic sarcoidosis before death.

Case Report: We report the case of a male patient with a history of pulmonary sarcoidosis, who presented with clinical picture and CT scan findings suggestive of pancreatic cancer.
