A Case Report of Axial Torsion of Meckel's Diverticulum: An Acute Abdomen Without Mechanical Bowel Obstruction in a Child.

Meckel's diverticulum is the most common congenital anomaly of the gastrointestinal tract. It is commonly silent but can cause multiple complications. The rarest presentation of Meckel's diverticulum is axial torsion around its base without involving the main gut lumen.

Introduction: Simulated paediatric surgical training is inherently advantageous and flourishing. Postoperative Necrotizing Enterocolitis Following Inguinal Hernia Repair in an Infant: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) following postoperative stress is a rare but life-threatening condition in infants. We report a 3-month-old infant who underwent bilateral inguinal hernia repair and developed NEC. This is the first reported case of an infant developing recurrent NEC with stricture formation after herniotomy.

Neonatal cushing syndrome (NCS) is a rare disease that results from prolonged exposure to high cortisol levels. McCune-Albright syndrome (MAS) is an exceedingly rare genetic disorder characterized by cafe-au-lait skin spots, bone fibrous dysplasia and multiple endocrinopathies. We describe a case of a premature neonate with Intrauterine Growth Retardation who presented with hypercortisolemia, neonatal transaminitis and cardiac dysfunction.

Conflict-related excess mortality and disability in Northwest Syria.

Introduction: The Syrian conflict that started in 2011 has been ongoing for over a decade without an end in sight. Estimates regarding excess mortality and conflict-related disability vary widely, and little field research has been done to address this topic.

Methods: A population-based field survey was conducted from 10 to 18 November 2020 in Northwest Syria.

Bipolar circumcision: A new technique for an old procedure with quantified cosmetic outcome.

Background: Circumcision using bipolar diathermy is well established and used widely. It seems to be superior in terms of post operative complications. The cosmetic outcome of the procedure has never been quantitatively described though.

The full spectrum of the syndrome is not yet known. Here we report a girl who presented with new onset refractory seizures and an undiagnosed cause of intermittent abdominal distention.

Central venous lines are an essential part of neonatal intensive care and are used for infusion of medications and parenteral nutrition (PN). PN is usually given via either peripherally inserted central lines or umbilical venous lines. Occasionally, central venous catheters (CVCs) are inserted in the femoral veins.

The "Silk Road": A novel method for inserting transpyloric feeding tubes in low resource settings.

Introduction: Transpyloric tube (TPT) feeding is used in a multitude of conditions including gastroesophageal reflux disease. We here describe a new simple method to insert TPTs.

Methods: 6 French feeding tube is premeasured nose to xiphisternum, and then another 7cm of length is added and 3-5 silk (4-0) ties are applied to the end of the tube spaced 0.

Paediatric inflammatory bowel disease: review with a focus on practice in low- to middle-income countries.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) should be considered in any child with a persistently altered bowel habit. Growth failure may be a consequence and there may also be extra-intestinal manifestations. Oesophago-gastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy and conventional histopathology are the diagnostic tools of choice in IBD.

Routine utilization of single-incision pediatric endosurgery (SIPES): a 5-year institutional experience.

Background: Single-incision pediatric endosurgery (SIPES) allows operation through one access site, eliminating the multiple sites traditionally used. There are few large series evaluating the versatility of SIPES. The purpose of this study is to review a 5-year single-institution experience with routine SIPES use.

Intestinal rehabilitation and bowel reconstructive surgery: improved outcomes in children with short bowel syndrome.

Background And Aim: Short bowel syndrome poses a great challenge to pediatric teams. Several innovative techniques in the management of total parenteral nutrition (TPN) and bowel reconstructive surgery have improved the outcomes of these children. The authors present their experience during the last decade as a specialist unit using improved techniques and multidisciplinary approaches in the management of this condition.

BAPS UK inflammatory bowel disease surgical practice survey.

Aims: A recent survey of children with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) identified wide regional variations of care within the UK. The present study was designed to analyse paediatric surgical provision for children with ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease.

Methods: All UK paediatric surgical centres were contacted to identify surgeons with a subspecialist interest in IBD.

Anorectal malformation with tubular hindgut duplication.

The association of hindgut duplication and anorectal malformation is rare. Published classifications of this association are confusing in respect of terminology. We report a case of blind-ending, Y-shaped tubular duplication of the distal hindgut, associated with an anorectal malformation (rectourethral fistula) affecting the colon proper.
