The current study proposes a procedure to estimate the activity concentration of natural radionuclides and to optimize passive shielding solutions for HPGe detectors using adjoint Monte Carlo (MC) simulation technique of Geant4 for the first time. The background spectrum is acquired for 1.56 × 10 s using an HPGe detector model (GC3020), set inside a shielding solution, during 2021-2022 to estimate the activity concentration of natural radionuclides inside the shielding.

In this study, a novel method to determine the surface and lateral dead layers of p-type HPGe detector is proposed to compute the full energy peak efficiency (FEPE). The method employed standard radioactive point sources Am, Ba and FEPE measurement at low energies to estimate the thickness of frontal and lateral dead layers. The method is simple to apply, requires only two standard radioactive sources to estimate the optimum thickness of frontal and lateral dead layers.

The aim of the study was to evaluate the radiation levels, radiological doses and excess lifetime cancer risk possessed by the urban soils that were collected from the vicinity of the exclusive mining and excavation centers of Dera Ghazi Khan. The high purity germanium detector was utilized for assessment of naturally occurring radionuclides (NORMs) in soil and results showed that the average activity concentrations of Ra, Th, and K (37 Bq/kg, 43.07 Bq/kg, 737 Bq/kg respectively) surpassed the world's average documented values (35 Bq/kg, 30 Bq/kg, and 400 Bq/kg respectively).

We describe a new method for recording spatially incoherent common-path off-axis color digital holograms. We present the theoretical and experimental evidence to demonstrate an incoherent common-path off-axis color digital holographic (ICOCH) system capable of capturing information from three-dimensional color objects under incoherent illumination, both in transmission and reflection modes. Fresnel incoherent correlation holography (FINCH), a common-path system, is a frequently used incoherent holography technique.

We present a spatially incoherent dual path Fourier holographic system. Conceptually it is similar to Fourier incoherent single channel holography (FISCH). Although our incoherent off-axis Fourier holographic (IOFH) system does not have the robustness of a single channel system, it has three advantages over FISCH, with two being quite obvious from setup.

In Rechna Doab, samples of the most common vegetation, perennial grass Desmostachya bipinnata (dab), were collected along with soil samples from 29 sites. Natural radioactivity of ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th/²²⁸Ac and ⁴⁰K was measured by using high purity germanium-based gamma ray spectrometer. Activity concentration levels of ²²⁶Ra, ²³²Th/²²⁸Ac and ⁴⁰K in soil were found to be 46.
