Ethylene glycol (EG) has been employed as a cryoprotectant for many years in mammalian semen cryopreservation but not assessed for birds except for its recently illustrated beneficial effects on commercial chicken lines. The Indian red jungle fowl is facing trouble in its native range due to human encroachment. Therefore, the present study was designed to elucidate the cryoprotective effect of different EG concentrations (5%, 10%, 15%, and 20%) on frozen Indian red jungle fowl semen.

Beta-thalassemia major (β-TM) is a genetic disorder, prevalent especially in the Mediterranean region, Southeast Asia, and the Indian subcontinent. With improvements in management over the years, β-TM has transitioned from a fatal childhood disease to a chronic condition. However, in Pakistan, there is still a lack of a comprehensive national policy and strategic plan, which has resulted in a growing number of β-TM patients, placing a substantial burden on individuals and the national healthcare system.

Our previous research papers have shown the potential of deep-learning models for real-time detection and control of porosity defects in 3D printing, specifically in the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process. Extending these models to identify other defects like surface deformation poses a challenge due to the scarcity of available data. This study introduces the use of Transfer Learning (TL) to train models on limited data for high accuracy in detecting surface deformations, marking the first attempt to apply a model trained on one defect type to another.

Article Synopsis
  • Polarization and color are crucial for understanding optical phenomena and their applications, particularly in creating customized 3D light fields with unique properties.
  • The development of lightweight optical elements that manage both polarization and color in a 3D space is desirable for modern compact and integrated systems.
  • A new metasurface approach can generate multicolored 3D polarization knots, giving engineers more flexibility to design complex vector beams, useful in areas like structured beams and encryption.

In this study, core-shell tablets comprising an ibuprofen (IBU) enteric-coated core for modified release and a rabeprazole (RAB) shell for immediate release were developed using wet granulation method. The primary aim was to produce a sequential release of RAB and IBU with pharmacokinetic profiles comparable to those of the respective single tablets, thereby reducing the potential for IBU-associated gastrointestinal (GI) side effects. The composition of the IBU/RAB core-shell tablets was finalized on a comparative basis by evaluating various trial formulations.

Background And Purpose: It is estimated that 18-30% of concussion sufferers experience symptoms lasting more than 1 month, known as persistent post-concussion symptoms (PPCS). Symptoms can be debilitating, and include headache, dizziness, nausea, problems with memory and concentration, sleep and mood disruption, and exercise intolerance. Previous studies have used quantitative susceptibility mapping (QSM) to show altered tissue susceptibility levels in adults acutely following concussion, however this finding has yet to be investigated in participants with PPCS.

Key Clinical Message: Early recognition and management of seronegative celiac disease, even in the absence of typical serological markers, can prevent complications and ensure better health outcomes in pediatric patients. Consideration of a gluten-free diet in similar cases can lead to significant clinical improvement.

Abstract: Celiac disease, characterized by its diverse clinical manifestations, often necessitates adherence to a gluten-free diet, particularly in pediatric patients for optimal growth and development.

Background: Vitamin B12 is primarily transported from plasma to cells by Transcobalamin. Deficiency of Transcobalamin is a rare autosomal recessive disorder that results in unavailability of cobalamin in cells and accumulation of homocysteine and methylmalonic acid.

Case Report: We report a case of a 2-year-old male child with persistent pancytopenia, recurrent infections, and megaloblastic anemia.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigates improving the solubility and stability of the antipsychotic drug Aripiprazole (ARI) using inclusion complexes formed with Methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MβCD) or Hydroxy propyl beta cyclodextrin (HPβCD) combined with amino acids L-Arginine (ARG) and L-Lysine (LYS).
  • - Results show that inclusion complexes with ARG performed better than those with LYS, with the best solubility observed in a specific molar ratio of ARI:MβCD:ARG prepared through lyophilization, leading to an 18-fold increase in solubility.
  • - Various characterization techniques, including AT-

Introduction: The management of acetabular fractures is a complicated orthopedic procedure that has been advancing with time. Newer radiological tools like CT scans help surgeons to identify and manage these fractures more attentively. The study was conducted to evaluate the clinical and radiographic outcomes in patients with acetabular fractures managed either conservatively or by open reduction and internal fixation.

Drug-resistant malaria is a global risk to the modern world. Artremisinin (ART) is one of the drugs of choice against drug-resistant (malaria) which is practically insoluble in water. The objective of our study was to improve the solubility of artemisinin (ART) via development of binary complexes of ART with sulfobutylether β-cyclodextrins (SBE7 β-CD), sulfobutylether β-cyclodextrins (SBE7 β-CD) and oleic acid (ternary complexes).

  • The study investigated how different types of e-cigarettes (nicotine-containing EC+ and nicotine-free EC-) and traditional cigarettes (TC) affect blood pressure (BP) and heart rate (HR).
  • Results indicated that EC+ significantly raised systolic BP, diastolic BP, and HR compared to EC-, while also having a less harmful effect on the cardiovascular system compared to TC.
  • Though EC+ led to more negative effects on vascular health compared to EC-, it was still less detrimental than traditional smoking; further research is recommended to understand the long-term impacts of e-cigarette use.

Background: There is limited evidence to support definite clinical outcomes of direct oral anticoagulant (DOAC) therapy in chronic kidney disease (CKD). By identifying the important variables associated with clinical outcomes following DOAC administration in patients in different stages of CKD, this study aims to assess this evidence gap.

Methods: An anonymised dataset comprising 97,413 patients receiving DOAC therapy in a tertiary health setting was systematically extracted from the multidimensional electronic health records and prepared for analysis.

Ince-Gaussian beams (IGBs) are the third complete family of exact and orthogonal solutions of the paraxial wave equation and have been applied in many fields ranging from particle trapping to quantum optics. IGBs play a very important role in optics as they represent the exact and continuous transition modes connecting Laguerre-Gaussian and Hermite-Gaussian beams. The method currently in use suffers from the high cost, complexity, and large volume of the optical system.
