Background Laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) has become a widely accepted bariatric procedure for treating morbid obesity and associated comorbidities due to its relatively straightforward technique and positive outcomes in terms of weight loss and metabolic improvement. Objective To investigate the frequency and types of early complications following LSG using four ports. Methods This prospective observational study was conducted at Al Hadi International Hospital, Swabi, Pakistan, from January 2022 to December 2022.

Triple osteotomy of first ray for severe hallux valgus surgery: Long-term follow-up.

This study aimed to present a retrospective case series of the long-term results of severe hallux valgus treated with triple osteotomy of the first ray. Patients with severe hallux valgus treated with a basal medial opening wedge, distal chevron, and Akin osteotomy from 2008 to 2012 were identified from the electronic medical records. Radiological outcomes such as pre- and postoperative hallux valgus angle, intermetatarsal angle, and distal metatarsal articular angle) were collected.

Dynamic hip screws versus cephalocondylic intramedullary nails for unstable extracapsular hip fractures in 2021: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised trials.

Background: Extracapsular hip fractures comprise approximately half of all hip fractures and the incidence of hip fractures is exponentially increasing. Extramedullary fixation using a dynamic hip screw (DHS) has been the gold standard method of operative treatment for unstable extracapsular fractures, however, in recent years, intramedullary nails (IMN) have become a popular alternative. IMN versus DHS is continuously discussed and debated in literature.

Tension Band Suture Fixation of Fifth Metatarsal Tuberosity Fracture: A Case Report.

Tuberosity fractures of the fifth metatarsal are common. The majority of these fractures are treated nonoperatively with good outcome. Surgery is indicated for nonunions, delayed unions, comminuted fractures, and displaced fractures.

Novel Anticoagulants and Hip Fractures in the Elderly.

Introduction Early surgery is recommended in hip fractures to reduce morbidity and mortality. Surgery is often delayed in patients on novel direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs). The purpose of our study was to investigate the impact of DOACs on patients with hip fractures.

Long-term functional outcomes following paediatric traumatic elbow dislocation, a clinical retrospective cohort study.

Background: Paediatric traumatic elbow dislocation occurs in 6 per 100,000 children per year and if not treated promptly can result in a poor outcome. Despite this, the long-term clinical and functional outcome of these injuries has not been well described using modern patient-reported outcome tools. The aim of our study was present the outcome of these injuries in the long term.

Postoperative haemoglobin estimation in elderly hip fractures.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to analyze the effect of postoperative hemoglobin check on the day of surgery and 1 day postoperatively in elderly hip fracture patients with an aim to determine an optimum timing of postoperative hemoglobin check.

Material And Methods: A retrospective study of 253 patients. Age, Charlson morbidity index, fracture type, time from admission to surgery, type of surgery, preoperative hemoglobin, postoperative hemoglobin, hemoglobin drop, day of postoperative hemoglobin measurement, blood transfusion, length of hospital stay, and 30-day mortality were recorded.

Hydroxyapatite coated hip hemiarthroplasty: Morbidity and mortality.

Background: Use of uncemented femoral stems for treating displaced intra capsular hip fractures in elderly is increasing worldwide. The aim of our study is to evaluate morbidity and mortality of treatment with a modular fully hydroxyapatite-coated collared femoral stem.

Introduction: Major trauma centres have improved morbidity and mortality for moderate and severely injured patients. Less injured patients may be treated in facilities less resourced for trauma care. In these units, understanding the variations in injury presentation and treatment over time allows service delivery to be tailored to demand.

First metatarsophalangeal joint arthrodesis with two orthogonal two hole plates.

Objective: First MTP joint fusion is a reliable procedure for advanced arthritis for the first MTP joint. There are many techniques described. The purpose of our study is to report clinical, radiological, functional outcomes and complications of first metatarsophalangeal joint fusion with hand preparation of the joint and fixation with two orthogonal locking plates without a compression screw.

Is There a Role for MRI in Plantar Heel Pain.

Introduction: There is an increasing trend to investigate plantar heel pain with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan though plantar fasciitis is the most common cause. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the role of MRI in patients presenting with plantar heel pain.

Methods: Case notes and MRI scans of 141 patients with a clinical diagnosis of plantar fasciitis were reviewed retrospectively.

Radiographic Features of Acute Patellar Tendon Rupture.

Objective: The purpose of our study was to assess soft tissue features of acute patellar tendon rupture on lateral knee radiograph that would facilitate early diagnosis.

Methods: The participants were divided into two groups of 35 patients each. There were 28 men and seven women with a mean age of 46 years in the control group and 26 men and nine women with a mean age of 47 years in the rupture group.

Dyslipidaemia among renal transplant recipients: cyclosporine versus tacrolimus.

Objectives: To compare new onset dyslipidaemia in live-related renal transplant recipients taking cyclosporine versus tacrolimus after 3 months of therapy.

Methods: The randomised controlled trial was conducted at the Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation (SIUT) Karachi, from September 2010 to April 2011, and included 182 End Stage Renal Disease patients on maintenance haemodialysis with pre-transplant normal lipid profile. The patients, who had live-related renal transplant, were randomly allocated to two equal groups using lottery.

Nonunion of an isolated cuboid fracture: a case report.

Nonunion of an isolated undisplaced cuboid fracture is unusual. We report a case of symptomatic nonunion of an isolated cuboid fracture after nonoperative treatment. Fracture union was achieved with surgery, and the patient returned to full activities.

Interphalangeal joint involvement of the big toe in gout: a rare presentation.

Atypical presentation of gout can cause diagnostic dilemmas. We report a case of gout that presented with an expansile lytic lesion involving the interphalangeal joint of the hallux, lack of a history of gout, and an associated solitary lung nodule. Magnetic resonance imaging showed an expansile destructive bony lesion with soft-tissue involvement suggestive of a possible bony metastasis.

Ultrasonography and magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of Morton's neuroma.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and ultrasonography are used widely for the diagnosis of Morton's neuroma. The aim of this study was to assess the accuracy of these two modalities as diagnostic tools in Morton's neuroma.

Methods: Fifty feet of 47 consecutive patients (39 women and 8 men; mean age, 46 years; age range, 36-64 years) who presented between January 1, 2005, and June 30, 2008, were included in the study.

An unusual cause of intractable heel pain.

We report a case of severe heel pain that did not respond to noninvasive measures. Magnetic resonance imaging scans revealed a soft tissue mass that after complete surgical excision was found to be an epidermal cyst. The patient experienced full resolution of the symptoms after excision of the epidermal cyst.
