Article Synopsis
  • Mature cystic teratomas are benign ovarian tumors most common in women of reproductive age, but they can also occur in young girls, and large ones (over 10 cm) are rare and problematic to manage.
  • A case involving an 8-year-old girl presented an unusually large teratoma (13 x 12 cm) with elevated CA 19-9 tumor marker levels, which is atypical for these types of tumors.
  • The tumor was successfully removed via surgery without malignancy and post-surgery, the CA 19-9 levels returned to normal, highlighting the importance of conservative treatment for preserving fertility in young female patients.
