Black esophagus is a rare condition referred from acute necrosis of the esophagus, with characteristic endoscopic finings of circumferential black appearance of the mucosa. Black esophagus is associated with systemic dysfunction, such as massive bleeding, or severe dehydration. Although the duodenal mucosa is also susceptible to ischemia, reports of black esophagus with duodenal involvement, such as bleeding or perforation, are limited.
