Purpose: There is no current standard treatment regimen for carcinoma ex pleomorphic adenoma (CXPA) of the lacrimal gland. Neoadjuvant intraarterial cytoreductive chemotherapy (IACC) followed by multimodal therapy has achieved good locoregional control in adenoid cystic carcinoma of the lacrimal gland. We reviewed our experience with neoadjuvant IACC followed by multimodal therapy for CXPA of the lacrimal gland.

The 6-Item Self-Efficacy Scale in Chronic Disease Management in Women With Endometriosis: A Turkish Validity and Reliability Study.

Objective: This study aimed to adapt the 6-Item Self-Efficacy Scale for Chronic Disease Management (SEMDC-6S) to women with endometriosis in the Turkish population and to evaluate its validity and reliability.

Methods: This methodological study comprised of 200 women with endometriosis. The construct validity of the scale was tested using the confirmatory factor analysis methods.

Objective: In this study, we aimed to assess the effect of the BioFire FilmArray Blood Culture Identification 2 panel on agent identification and antimicrobial stewardship in patients with a critical state of sepsis secondary to bloodstream infection.

Methods: This study was designed as a prospective observational study. Patients who developed sepsis and septic shock secondary to bloodstream infection in the intensive care unit were included in the study.

Considerations When Measuring Exclusive Breastfeeding.

Exclusive breastfeeding, as recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO) for the first 6 months of life, is a critical metric for evaluating maternal and infant feeding practices and health outcomes. Despite its importance, inconsistencies in defining and measuring breastfeeding exclusivity present challenges for research comparability and interpretation. Equally, research design, outcomes of interest, and study resources are necessary considerations when collecting and analyzing exclusive breastfeeding data, and may require the adaption of standardized questions and techniques to individual situations.

Navigating the Spectrum of Double-İnlet Left Ventricle Presentations: Contemporary Retrospective Cohort Study.

Purpose: We presented the experience of a tertiary care center for maternal and fetal diseases and assessed the findings fetuses with double-inlet left ventricle (DILV) regarding fetal echocardiography, prenatal course including fetal growth and death, and postnatal outcome.

Methods: In this retrospective study, patients diagnosed with DILV via prenatal ultrasound in the maternal-fetal medicine department between 2015 and 2023 were included to evaluate important aspects of prenatal diagnosis and course, as well as postnatal management and outcome.

Results: There were 33 DILV cases prenatally diagnosed and postnatally confirmed.

Gene editing without ex vivo culture evades genotoxicity in human hematopoietic stem cells.

Gene editing the BCL11A erythroid enhancer is a validated approach to fetal hemoglobin (HbF) induction for β-hemoglobinopathy therapy, though heterogeneity in edit allele distribution and HbF response may impact its safety and efficacy. Here, we compare combined CRISPR-Cas9 editing of the BCL11A +58 and +55 enhancers with leading gene modification approaches under clinical investigation. Dual targeting of the BCL11A +58 and +55 enhancers with 3xNLS-SpCas9 and two single guide RNAs (sgRNAs) resulted in superior HbF induction, including in sickle cell disease (SCD) patient xenografts, attributable to simultaneous disruption of core half E-box/GATA motifs at both enhancers.

Introduction: While pediatric intraocular malignancies are rare, management requires frequent examinations under anesthesia (EUAs) which are financial costly. The purpose of the study was to measure operating room (OR) turnover costs and to estimate potential cost savings of reducing turnover time.

Methods: Turnover time data for EUAs with a single ocular oncology provider at the University of Michigan were analyzed from 2021 to 2023.

Novel Multimodal Imaging in Bilateral Diffuse Uveal Melanocytic Proliferation and Change in the Findings During Follow-up and Treatment.

Purpose: To describe the advanced multimodal imaging findings of patients with bilateral diffuse uveal melanocytic proliferation (BDUMP) and the changes in these findings over time.

Methods: Fundus photography, fundus autofluorescence (FAF), fundus fluorescein angiography (FA), spectral domain optical coherence tomography (OCT), B-scan ultrasonography (US), and ultrasound biomicroscopy (UBM) images of the patients diagnosed with BDUMP at a single institution between years 2006-2023 were evaluated.

Results: Sixteen eyes of 8 patients with BDUMP were included.

To address variations in fetal hemoglobin (HbF) response, we investigated editing both +58 and +55 enhancers. Rhesus macaques transplanted with edited hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs) following busulfan conditioning exhibited durable, high-level (∼90%) editing frequencies post transplantation with sustained HbF reactivation over 4 years, without hematological perturbations.

Patients And Methods: Thirty-five females suffering from stress and mixed urinary incontinence were included in the study. The electromagnetic chair (BTL EMSELLA) was applied to the patient's pelvic area twice a week for 28 minutes, totaling 6 sessions.

Importance of scattered white spots detected in the duodenum and their relationship with zonulin.

Objective: Scattered white spots (SWS) seen in the duodenum during esophagogastroduodenoscopy are rare lesions. The histopathologic examination of SWS lesions reveals normal duodenal mucosa (ND), chronic nonspecific duodenitis, and intestinal lymphangiectasia (IL). The intestinal epithelium, through its barrier function, is responsible for tightly controlling antigen traffic from the intestinal lumen to the submucosa.

Background/aims: Cholecystectomy, while generally safe with low perioperative morbidity and mortality, has been linked to an increase in metabolic disorders. Metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) is a globally prevalent condition that leads to both hepatic and systemic complications. This study aimed to investigate the association between cholecystectomy and MAFLD.

The role of persistent right umbilical vein in the diagnosis of fetal genetic syndromes.

Introduction: Persistent right umbilical vein (PRUV) is an embryonic vascular abnormality. Recent studies suggested that the perinatal outcome was good and the risk of aneuploidy was low in isolated forms. Our purpose in this study was to assess the relation of PRUV with genetic abnormalities and demonstrate concomitant malformations and perinatal outcomes of these fetuses.

Prenatal-Postnatal Outcomes and Prognostic Risk Factors of Fetal Volvulus: Analysis of 26 Cases.

Objective: The aim of the current study was to reveal ultrasonographic and clinical features, prenatal-postnatal outcomes and prognostic risk factors of fetal volvulus.

Method: This retrospective study evaluated all cases of fetal volvulus diagnosed between 2018 and 2024 at the Perinatology center of Zeynep Kamil Women and Children Diseases Training and Research Hospital. In the vast majority of cases, the pediatric surgery team confirmed the conclusive diagnosis of volvulus during the postnatal period.
