The aim of this study was to investigate the antioxidant and anti-apoptotic effects of onion (Allium cepa) extracts (ACE) on doxorubicin (DOX)-induced cardiotoxicity. The rats in the ACE-pretreated group were given a daily dose of 1 ml ACE for 14 days. To induce cardiotoxicity, DOX (30 mg kg(-1) body weight) was injected intraperitoneally by a single dose and the rats were sacrificed after 48 h.

The force applied upon a vertically oriented hand-held object could be decomposed into two orthogonal and highly coordinated components: the grip force (GF; the component perpendicular to the hand-object contact area that provides friction) and the load force (LF; the parallel component that can move the object or support the body). The aim of this study was to investigate the underexplored effects of task instruction and hand dominance on GF-LF coordination. Sixteen right-handed subjects performed bimanual manipulation against a horizontally oriented instrumented device under different sets of instructions.

Background: There are many synthetic materials for the treatment of bone defects, which have their own advantages and disadvantages. We aimed to compare the efficacy of ostrich eggshell, which is cheap and easily available, and demineralized bone matrix in healing of cranial bone defects.

Methods: A full-thickness circular bone defect was created in the frontal bone of 40 Wistar rats.

Objective: This study was carried out with the aim of investigating the contribution of nerve mobilization exercises to the conservative treatment of tarsal tunnel syndrome.

Methods: In this clinical trial, 28 patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups. The control group was composed of 14 patients who were treated conservatively with a program consisting of physiotherapy and supportive inserts, whereas 14 patients in the study group were given nerve mobilization exercises in addition to the same treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examined the preferences and practices of urooncologic surgeons in Turkey regarding bowel preparation and peri-operative management for radical cystectomy.
  • The survey included 44 surgeons who reported consistent bowel preparation methods, with variations in techniques used and the application of prophylactic measures for antibiotics and deep vein thrombosis.
  • Findings reveal significant inconsistencies in patient care among the surgeons, highlighting the need for standardized protocols to ensure optimal management during and after radical cystectomy.

Background: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) is a locally invasive tumor that can grow extensively with diffuse infiltration into surrounding tissue. Resecting a large neurofibroma can result in an extensive defect that is difficult to reconstruct and can cause both aesthetic and functional deformities.

Methods: From 2000 to 2010, 5 patients with NF-1 underwent radical resection and immediate reconstruction with 6 free flaps at our institution.

Objective: Coronary artery ectasia (CAE) is defined as local or generalized aneurysmal dilatation of the coronary arteries. We aimed to determine the frequency of CAE at our center and to compare clinical and angiographic characteristics between patients with isolated CAE and CAE with coronary artery disease (CAD).

Methods: From February 2004 to December 2005, 12.

The frequency of assault by burning among all burn patients varies from country to country. Assault by burning, although uncommon, is a serious form of trauma and a significant source of morbidity and mortality. The aim of this retrospective study was to identify the epidemiologic features, current etiological factors, and the mortality of nine patients admitted to our burn unit between January 1999 and January 2009 after unexpected burn assault by paint thinner ignition caused by street children addicted to paint thinner.

Temporalis muscle metastasis of a tumor is a rare condition. Basaloid squamous cell carcinoma is an uncommon variant of squamous cell carcinoma, which often occurs in the aerodigestive tract. To the best of our knowledge, there have been no previous reports dealing with temporalis muscle metastasis from esophageal carcinoma in the literature.

Background: In this experimental animal study, the effects of three different topical antimicrobial dressings on Candida albicans contaminated full-thickness burn in rats were analyzed.

Methods: In total 32 adult Wistar rats (body weight 200-220 g) were used. Silver-coated dressing (Acticoat™®), chlorhexidine acetate 0.

Objectives: This experimental study aimed to create a prefabricated vascularized bone graft using the interconnected porous coralline hydroxyapatite ceramic by combining vascular bundle implantation, mesenchymal stem cells, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) administration in a rat model.

Methods: Forty-five male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into three groups, each containing 15 rats. The hydroxyapatite ceramics were vascularized by the superficial inferior epigastric artery and vein in all groups.

Coal stoves that are used for heating purposes are more popular in economically developing and undeveloped countries because of their lower operational costs. Unfortunately, they may cause serious burn injuries when flammable liquids are misused to kindle or to accelerate a fire within them. Every year, particularly in the winter, many citizens in Turkey have suffered burn injuries caused by this dangerous practice.

Introduction: The axillary region is one of the sites most frequently affected by postburn contractures. In this clinical study, we used pre-expanded pedicled thoracodorsal artery (TDA) perforator flaps for release of postburn contracture of the axillary region.

Patient And Methods: Five patients with severe axillary burn contractures were reconstructed with six pre-expanded pedicled TDA perforator flaps between 2008 and 2010.

Objective: P-wave dispersion (PWD) is an electrocardiographic measurement, which reflects a disparity in an atrial conduction. In this study, we aim to demonstrate the diagnostic accuracy of PWD in predicting recurrence of atrial fibrillation (AF) in patients with sinus rhythm restoration after external cardioversion.

Methods: This prospective, observational study consists of 26 patients, who underwent external cardioversion for non-valvular persistent AF and successfully cardioverted to sinus rhythm (13 men, mean age 58.

The effects of 100 dB prenatal and chronic postnatal white noise stress (WNS) on some cognitive functions and behaviors in rats were investigated. For this purpose, 60 female Sprague-Dawley rats and their 90 male offspring were used. Pregnant rats were divided into Prenatal Stress (PS) and Prenatal Control (PC) groups.

Background: Facial burns are very common and have significant clinical impact. Facial scars are easily recognized in the community and become a source of lifelong guilt, shame, and regret for the patients. In the presented clinical study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of CO2 laser resurfacing and thin skin grafting for burn scars of face.

Background: Slug is a transcription factor of the Snail/Slug zinc-finger family and is implicated in metastasis of tumors, but its role in cell proliferation of prostate cancers is unclear.

Methods: Expression level of Slug and other genes was examined by Western blot, RT-PCR, and QPCR analyses. The forced expression of Slug was mediated by retroviruses and adenoviruses.

High friction is crucially important in manipulation activities for reducing the hand grip forces and improving control of manipulative tasks. The aim of this study was to assess the coefficient of friction (COF) of various areas of hand skin. Static COF of nine different grasping techniques applied against two object coatings was assessed by means of the 'slip point' method in 16 participants.
