Antioxidant and anti-apoptotic effects of onion (Allium cepa) extract on doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity in rats.

The effects of instruction and hand dominance on grip-to-load force coordination in manipulation tasks.

The force applied upon a vertically oriented hand-held object could be decomposed into two orthogonal and highly coordinated components: the grip force (GF; the component perpendicular to the hand-object contact area that provides friction) and the load force (LF; the parallel component that can move the object or support the body). The aim of this study was to investigate the underexplored effects of task instruction and hand dominance on GF-LF coordination. Sixteen right-handed subjects performed bimanual manipulation against a horizontally oriented instrumented device under different sets of instructions.

Reconstruction of cranial bone defects using Struthio camelus eggshell.

Effects of nerve mobilization exercise as an adjunct to the conservative treatment for patients with tarsal tunnel syndrome.

Objective: This study was carried out with the aim of investigating the contribution of nerve mobilization exercises to the conservative treatment of tarsal tunnel syndrome.

Methods: In this clinical trial, 28 patients were randomly allocated into 2 groups. The control group was composed of 14 patients who were treated conservatively with a program consisting of physiotherapy and supportive inserts, whereas 14 patients in the study group were given nerve mobilization exercises in addition to the same treatment.

Free flap reconstruction of extensive defects following resection of large neurofibromatosis.

Background: Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF-1) is a locally invasive tumor that can grow extensively with diffuse infiltration into surrounding tissue. Resecting a large neurofibroma can result in an extensive defect that is difficult to reconstruct and can cause both aesthetic and functional deformities.

Methods: From 2000 to 2010, 5 patients with NF-1 underwent radical resection and immediate reconstruction with 6 free flaps at our institution.

Effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy on bone prefabrication in rats.

Objectives: This experimental study aimed to create a prefabricated vascularized bone graft using the interconnected porous coralline hydroxyapatite ceramic by combining vascular bundle implantation, mesenchymal stem cells, and hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) administration in a rat model.

Coal stoves that are used for heating purposes are more popular in economically developing and undeveloped countries because of their lower operational costs. Unfortunately, they may cause serious burn injuries when flammable liquids are misused to kindle or to accelerate a fire within them. Every year, particularly in the winter, many citizens in Turkey have suffered burn injuries caused by this dangerous practice.

Pre-expanded pedicled thoracodorsal artery perforator flap for postburn axillary contracture reconstruction.

Introduction: The axillary region is one of the sites most frequently affected by postburn contractures. In this clinical study, we used pre-expanded pedicled thoracodorsal artery (TDA) perforator flaps for release of postburn contracture of the axillary region.

The effects of 100 dB prenatal and chronic postnatal white noise stress (WNS) on some cognitive functions and behaviors in rats were investigated. For this purpose, 60 female Sprague-Dawley rats and their 90 male offspring were used. Pregnant rats were divided into Prenatal Stress (PS) and Prenatal Control (PC) groups.

Frictional properties of different hand skin areas and grasping techniques.

High friction is crucially important in manipulation activities for reducing the hand grip forces and improving control of manipulative tasks. The aim of this study was to assess the coefficient of friction (COF) of various areas of hand skin. Static COF of nine different grasping techniques applied against two object coatings was assessed by means of the 'slip point' method in 16 participants.
