Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), the cause of coronavirus disease (COVID-19), spreading from Wuhan to worldwide has been emerged since December 2019. Although scientists and researchers have been racing to develop specific therapeutic agents or vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 since the identification of the agent, either a drug or a vaccine has not been approved to treat or to prevent COVID-19 up to date. On the base of historical experiences, Convalescent Plasma (CP), a passive antibody therapy, has been evaluated as a hopeful and potential therapeutic option since the beginning of the COVID-19 outbreak.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates risk factors for bacteremia in children with febrile neutropenia (FN) due to hemato-oncological malignancies, analyzing data from 150 patients under 18 years old.
  • Among the participants, 23.3% had bacteremia, with coagulase-negative staphylococci being the most common bacteria found.
  • Key risk factors identified include leukopenia, severe neutropenia, previous positive blood culture results, and episodes of hypotension, with past FN experiences increasing the risk significantly.

Objective: Few data are available on the clinical significance of 18-fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography (FDG-PET/CT) results in patients with leukemia. We investigated the utility of FDG-PET/CT at the time of relapsed/refractory disease in pediatric patients with leukemia.

Methods: Medical records of 28 children with suspected leukemia progression or recurrence during/after chemotherapy or allogeneic stem cell transplantation (allo-SCT) were retrospectively reviewed to determine the utility of FDG-PET/CT.

Uterine sarcomas are very rare malignancies, and when a hysterectomy is performed for benign causes, a risk of about 1/500 is mentioned for possible uterine sarcomas. Endometrial stromal neoplasms are a rare subgroup of uterine sarcomas that account for less than 10% of all uterine sarcomas. Mixed endometrial stromal and smooth muscle tumors, also known as stromomyomas, are defined as having at least 30% each of endometrial stromal and smooth muscle components.
