Purpose: Helicobacter pylori, causing chronic systemic infection, may colonize in middle ear milieu and conduce to effusion collection. Many investigations on relationship between pathogenesis of otitis media with effusion (OME) and Helicobacter pylori yielded conflicting results. We investigated Helicobacter pylori presence in effusion and adenoid samples of children having OME and in middle ear and adenoid samples of children with healthy middle ears to elucidate its role on OME pathogenesis.

Introduction: In the field of sports psychology, imagery training plays a significant role in enhancing athletes' mental preparation and optimizing sports performance. This study aims to investigate the effects of the Virtual Reality-Based Imagery (VRBI) training model on muscle activation and kinesthetic motor imagery skills in athletes. Specifically, the study compares the VRBI model with traditional imagery methods, including Visual Motor Behavior Practice (VMBP) and Video Modeling (VM), to determine its effectiveness in improving neuromuscular responses.

Objective: Caffeine is a proven medication used for the prevention and treatment of apnea in premature infants, offering both short- and long-term benefits. International guidelines provide a range of recommendations regarding the preterm population eligible for caffeine prophylaxis, including the timing, dosage, and duration of treatment. Our national guidelines, published prior to the most recent updates of the international guidelines, recommend the use of caffeine citrate starting from the first day after delivery for preterm infants with a gestational age of <28 weeks.

Measuring total metabolic tumor volume (TMTV) on F-FDG PET/CT images in clinical practice requires a fast, reliable, and easy-to-perform multilesional segmentation workflow. We conducted a field test to derive total metabolic volumes using 5 representative baseline F-FDG PET/CT scans from patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. The scans were transferred to 10 different sites or readers who used different commercially available software platforms to derive TMTV after a recently proposed benchmark workflow.

Anagen effluvium is a rare adverse effect of methotrexate therapy, generally associated with high-dose regimens. We report a 12-year-old girl who developed abrupt hair loss 1 week after inadvertently taking methotrexate 15 mg daily for five consecutive days (total 75 mg), without other signs of systemic toxicity. Trichoscopic examination and trichogram findings confirmed methotrexate-induced anagen effluvium, and spontaneous hair regrowth occurred after 2 months.

The aim of this study is to evaluate the model performance in the classification of FAMACHA© scores using Support Vector Machines (SVMs) with a focus on the estimation of the FAMACHA© scoring system used for early diagnosis and treatment management of parasitic infections. FAMACHA© scores are a color-based visual assessment system used to determine parasite load in animals, and in this study, the accuracy of the model was investigated. The model's accuracy rate was analyzed in detail with metrics such as sensitivity, specificity, and positive/negative predictive values.

Several thrombotic risk assessment models have been proposed for identifying patients with a high risk of thrombosis (the IMPEDE venous thromboembolism (VTE), SAVED, and PRISM scores) in multiple myeloma (MM). Recently, adding a biomarker (D-dimer) for the IMPEDE VTE score has shown that it can boost the detection power of IMPEDED VTE. However, data from studies comparing these models in MM are scarce.

Objective: Intravesical BCG treatment is the most frequently preferred adjuvant treatment option with its effective results in non-muscle invasive bladder tumors. Despite effective results, systemic and local side effects can be observed and can be one of the main reasons for treatment discontinuation. In this study we aimed to identify clinical factors predicting BCG-related side effects during intravesical BCG therapy in patients with non-muscle invasive bladder cancer.

A series of 6,7-dimethoxy-4-anilinoquinazoline derivatives, which have amidine (4a-4d, 5a-5c, 6a-6d) and amidoxime (4e, 5d, 6e) moieties, were synthesized and evaluated their anticancer activity on various cancerous cell lines (H1975, HCC827, and H23). Among the synthesized compounds, 4c was found to be the most potent inhibitor of EGFR, comparable to erlotinib, with higher than 10 μM EC values for H1975 and H23 and 0.16 μM EC value for HCC827 cells.

Cigarette butts are a common form of litter that pose significant ecological risks due to their toxic components, which can accumulate in soils, impacting human health, plant growth, and soil-dwelling organisms. This study investigated the environmental implications of "light" cigarette butts, which, like regular ones, contain harmful chemicals that render them hazardous waste. The cellulose acetate filters are notably resistant to biodegradation, allowing them to persist in the environment and leach toxins.

Background: Providing effective labor analgesia is very important for maternal and infant safety. Various neuraxial techniques are used for this purpose. Our objective was to compare the epidural volume extension (EVE) and dural puncture epidural (DPE) procedures employed in clinical practice for labor analgesia, focusing on labor parameters, pain levels, fetal outcomes, and complications.

Introduction: Nosocomial infections caused by carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae in intensive care units (ICUs) are increasing worldwide. Morbidity and mortality rates are quite high in these infections due to limited treatment options and various risk factors. We determined the rate of carbapenem resistance, risk factors for carbapenem resistance, mortality rate, and risk factors associated with mortality in nosocomial infections in the adult ICU.

Cardiac arrest can cause irreversible Post-Cardiac Arrest Brain Injury (PCABI), but predicting PCABI with certainty remains challenging. This study aims to improve prognostication by predicting neurological recovery using EEG data from the 'I-CARE: International Cardiac Arrest Research Consortium Database.' Data were preprocessed with an FIR Equiripple Bandpass Filter, and three feature extraction methods were applied.

One of the main difficulties in microplastic (MP) research is the lack of standardized, real-world methods such as matrix blank and simultaneous tracking of polymer particles for enumeration. Building on a previous study, a matrix preparation and experimental workflow for soil matrices is presented that addresses the challenges of purification to allow subsequent analysis using Nile Red-stained MPs as a surrogate. Key steps include peroxide digestion and density separation (NaI) followed by centrifugation for low density polyethylene (LDPE) and polyvinyl chloride (PVC) surrogates to assess recoveries in terms of number and size, based on fluorescence microscopy and Raman spectroscopy.

Fentanyl, a potent synthetic opioid, has been linked to an increasing number of overdose deaths in the United States. It began replacing heroin in the illicit drug supply in 2013, and now contributes to both drug-related criminal offenses and the need for treatment. Its unique pharmacokinetics complicate the role of drug testing, which is a ubiquitous practice in both criminal justice and treatment settings.

Xanthogranulomatous inflammatory disease is a rare and benign condition that affects various organs. Due to their aggressive nature, the clinical and radiological findings of xanthogranulomatous inflammatory diseases are often misdiagnosed as malignant neoplasms. Prostate cancer metastases are most prevalent in lymph nodes and bones, with less common locations including the lung, liver, and brain.

The concept and feasibility of producing liposomes by rehydrating engineered lipid nanoconstructs are demonstrated in this study. Nanoconstructs of 1-palmitoyl-2-oleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (POPC) were produced using a microfluidic delivery probe integrated with an atomic force microscope. The subsequent rehydration of these POPC constructs led to the formation of liposomes, most of which remained adhered to the surface.
