Background And Objectives: Measuring postoperative outcomes after complex cancer operations such as pancreatectomy is vital to improve cancer surgery in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs); however, such data is often limited. This study aimed to review existing research and obtain baseline estimates for postoperative mortality and morbidity after pancreatic cancer surgery in LMICs.

Methods: PubMed, Embase, Web of Science Core Collection, and Global Index Medicus were systematically searched for original articles published between January 2005 and May 2022.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how often postoperative atrial fibrillation (POAF) occurs and its effects on in-hospital and 30-day mortality and morbidity in patients undergoing mitral valve replacement (MVR).
  • Conducted at a cardiac surgery department in Pakistan, it included 186 patients aged 20-70 with severe mitral stenosis who underwent surgery, tracking the incidence of POAF and associated outcomes.
  • Results showed that 19.4% of patients developed POAF, leading to longer ICU and hospital stays, higher mortality rates, and complications such as embolic strokes and congestive heart failure within 30 days.
