Background: Pneumocystis jirovecii infection is the most common opportunistic infection that causes pneumonia in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients; however, extrapulmonary P. jirovecii infection is extremely rare after the use of antiretroviral therapy. Here, we present the second reported case of paraspinal mass caused by P.

Inflammation of the nose and paranasal sinus or rhinosinusitis (RS) is a significant global health problem that is both very common and very costly to treat. Previous reports reveal variability in histology and mechanism of inflammation in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis with and without polyp (CRScNP and CRSsNP, respectively). There are various methods and hypothesis that try to explain this variability.

Objective: The authors developed the autologous fibrin-base scaffold for chondrocytes and bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs) implantation and evaluated cells viability in autologous fibrin-base scaffold comparing to commercial fibrin glue.

Material And Method: The chondrocytes and BM-MSCs were seeded into autologous fibrin-base scaffold and commercial fibrin glue. The cell viability and proliferation were evaluated at 1 and 7 days.

Background: Neurothekeoma and nerve sheath myxoma have long been interpreted as related tumors that share nerve sheath linage. Lack of S100 expression in neurothekeoma and similarities of gene expression profiles between neurothekeoma and fibrohistiocytic tumors have created reasonable doubt about this concept. SOX-10 represents a marker for schwannian and melanocytic differentiation, and is expressed in other tumors of nerve sheath linage.

Background: Inflammatory patterns of nasal polyps (NPs) may vary. Changes over time have not been investigated so far. This study was designed to evaluate the inflammatory patterns of NPs in Thailand at two time points 12 years apart, explore differences in Staphylococcus aureus (SA) mucosal carriage rates over time, and the latter's relationship with the inflammatory patterns.

A 62-year-old Thai man was admitted because of nausea and vomiting with incidentally detected bilateral adrenal enlargement. The basal cortisol was low and ACTH level was elevated CT guided percutaneous needle biopsy of adrenal gland showed a diffuse infiltration of medium to large atypical lymphoid cells of B-cell immunophenotype, which are diagnostic for a diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. Involvement by large B-cell lymphoma was documented in bone marrow biopsy as well.

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor is a very rare soft tissue tumor in the general population but there is an increased incidence in patients with neurofibromatosis type 1. Two cases of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor associated with neurofibromatosis type 1 whom we were able to follow-up long term are presented. Although wide excision was performed successfully in these patients, they suffered from local recurrence of the tumors shortly after surgery and died with distant metastases.

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is strongly associated with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) infection. To assess whether EBV DNA detection by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or presence of specific serum antibody to viral capsid antigen (VCA) was a better marker for screening NPC, nasopharyngeal tissues and blood samples from 58 NPC patients and 24 non-NPC patients (23 with laryngotracheal stenosis and 1 with chronic tonsillitis) were tested for the presence of EBV DNA and serum specific VCA antibodies, respectively. EBV DNA was detected in 56 (96.
